“Great evening at a milonga”
Review of Nino Bien

Not a tango dancer myself, but really fascinated by the dance, I had some great hours watching different couples, different ages and different tango skills enjoying them at the dance floor. The meal was not that great, but here you don't go for the food, but for the nice atmosphere. If you want to see real tango by real people, this is a very good alternative.

One of the "must see" in Argentina is of course tango.
Compared to LA Viruta you can find very good dancers in Nino Bien already from the beginning of the evening (i.e. about 12 pm). Get ready for the real tango show by ordinary folks. It was just amazing. But do not expect to drink good wine there, probably because when you dance such a difficult (and beautiful) dance you drink non-alcoholic ones.

This was a great experience of real old fashioned life in BA. This is the real Tango show, no fancy moves just ordinary folks dancing and having fun together, age 20-80.

Niño Bien on Thursday nights is the place to be if you want to see and be seen on the milonga scene in Buenos Aires, although it can be full of foreign tango tourists. You can also have a bite to eat and just watch.

This is a traditional dancehall in one of Buenos Aires' immigrant social clubs. Several nights a week it is open to the public for tango dances, known as 'milongas'. For dancers, it has one of the best and biggest wooden floors in town and should not be missed. Milongas are listed in the tango magazines.
If you are thinking of going to one of these as a non-dancing tourist, please be discrete and respectful - it is not a bar. People take their tango very seriously and do not drink a lot or talk loudly. Behaviour within the milonga follows a well-defined code and if an unsuspecting visitor transgresses that, they may be asked to leave. So please don't go along thinking you can 'mix it up a little' or try a bit of two-step in the middle of the floor. Find out before you go, take some Tango classes, hire a guide.
