Back in BA

Back in BA is a great hostel! Located in the hip Palermo neighborhood, Back in BA offers a great place to lay your head while visitng Buenos Aires.

Accommodations. The two story hostel contains a mix of dorm rooms and private rooms for one, two, three, or four. Some of the rooms have their own private bathrooms. There are shared restrooms on both floors. The rooms are relatively basic, but the prices are great. There are two commons areas. One is a quiet courtyard on the main floor. The main commons area has a full kitchen for guests to use, a dining table, couch with TV, two public computers, and a bar. Guests will stay up until 2 or 3 am in the main common area most nights before heading out to the bars and clubs in Palermo. There is always a staff person behind the main desk-bar area. You can rent a towel from the hostel for a 10 peso fee that is reimbursed at the end of your stay.

Services. Breakfast is provided each morning. I had a roll with dulce de leche every morning and it was great! There are many supermarkets and kiosks in the area selling food, water, drinks, etc. I picked up some yogurt to supplement the simple breakfast. For the most part, the breakfast is good enough on its own. If you want to save a few bucks on your trip, cook dinner in the hostel a couple times.

Activities. The staff here offer some suggestions for activities during the day and evening. The social director, JJ, even organized a Halloween party in the hostel. The trips and activities are suggestions, not plans. If you talk to a staffer, they can help you plan and book your trips and events. Then again, talking to any of your fellow travelers is a good way to go.

Advice. There are other forums discussing the exchange rate situation here in Argentina. My advice is that you should change no more than $150 American dollars at the airport at the official rate and then talk to the other guests about getting a better rate here on the blue (or black, as some call it) market. Some of the more long term residents will know where to go. Speaking of money, pay for a whole week in pesos up front. After you find a favorable exchange rate, pay for a week in advance and you can get a free night. Even at the American rate, Back in BA is a good deal. At the blue market exchange rate, this hostel is very inexpensive. A great value!

Room Tip: There are two private rooms near the bar-commons area. If you are not staying up late, these can get...

Back in BA deserves a lot of credit, for being a simple, clean, and fun place to stay. With the absolutely perfect location in Palermo (should be on everybody's list in BA), the staff are entertaining and accommodating, and really know the area and the locals well. It was so vital for me, having just arrived in S. America as a solo traveller at that point, to feel welcome and grounded in a new city. The staff made it so.

The beds were some of the most comfortable dorm beds I've slept with, and my personal favourite was having a curtain to pull over for privacy. The lockers were huge, the bathrooms clean, and the BBQ great! Only downside was a bit of a 'lacking' breakfast, but this seems to be the standard in hostels in Argentina.

I wanted somewhere relaxing, calm, and easy enough to meet new people. Back in BA provided this, with excess!

I just spent 3 weeks in BA, and ended up staying in three hostels in this time - this was by far the best! It's not a massive hostel, but nor is it too small - I met really great people travelling, but could also sleep at night when I wanted - it strikes the balance well! It's clean, and the staff are brilliant! It's also in a really safe area and the best area of BA (for those who know London, Palermo is like the Chelsea of BA, but of course a lot cheaper!) It was really nice being able to go to the main bar and chill out areas in BA, and be able to walk back safely after.

Jorge (who works there) made up the best pizza we'd eaten in BA, and is a legend - if you stay there, you'll definitely meet him - really top guy, and very kind! There's a real community and friendly atmosphere at the hostel, and it comes from the staff! Nothing was too much trouble - walking us to a bar and getting us in, giving us advice & tips on what to do and where to go etc. Highlight was watching Argentina vs. New Zealand live in the rugby - the hostel sorted that out too!

For any other UK people going anywhere in Argentina - can I advise you use azimo.co.uk to transfer cash... It's basically a brilliant service where you pay with your debit card an amount you want to receive in Argentina, then pick it up from a Western Union 24hrs later in Pesos... The official rate in Argentina is £1/8pesos, with azimo you get £1/14pesos - nearly double the exchange rate - it's secure and really easy to use!

We stayed at the little gem of a place for a week and were so sad to leave. The staff and owner are incredible and it's cheap as chips for the brilliant Palermo Soho location. One of the staff even cooked us an incredible asado one night! We're taking some of his bbq tips back to Australia. We stayed in a private double and it was very clean and the bed and doona were so comfy. Breakfast includes wholemeal/multigrain rolls and fruit and the kitchen has everything you need. If you're after a quiet place or you're not quite used to the Argentinian party clock, this may not suit you. If you like a few drinks, meeting new people and cheap beers, you'll love it here!

A very small hostel with a great website, a wonderful naberhood (very safe), but with bad service. The rooms are not like they seem in the pictures, the toilets were broken and the showers not very clean. The room we stayed in had its window to the court of the hostel - so at night it was noisy until the early morning hours...
The breakfast is nice!
What i really had problems with is, that some stuff members really don`t treat you like clients.I felt more as a burden for them then as a welcome guest.
Another thing that is important to know: They don`t accept any cards to pay!
It`s a pitty that they don`t make bigger efforts to satisfy/to please to their clients, because the location of the hostel is very beautiful. Palermo is a quiet, safe naberhood with restaurants, bars and shopping possibilities.
But over all i don`t think i will stay again at "Back in BA".

I stayed here for 3 nights, the hostel is small and very calm. The staff is very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean as well as the bathrooms. The lockers here are great! One of the best things about this place is the location, it is close to all the restaurants and nightlife,as well as very safe. Enjoyed my overall stay here.

I'm surprised but the poor reviews for this hostel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The common area is small, but the hostel is fairly small also.

The rooms are large and comfortable (though basic) & the bathrooms clean.

The kitchen is tiny, so not great for cooking.

The hostel is located in a fantastic part of town and is easily accessible (though the subte is not super close). It is also a safe part of town (and as a solo female, I felt very comfortable walking back in the evening).

There are a couple of rooms that back onto the common area which wouldn't be ideal and may be quite noisy.

I definitely recommend this hostel.
