Recently spent 7 days with my daughter at the Vain in Palermo. I smile every time I think of it. My daughter was attending a conference at the Rural (located 2 blocks from the hotel). Our goal was to do as much as we could in the short time she had available. The entire staff gave us the feeling they genuinely enjoyed working with us and having us as guests. .......from the woman who served us breakfast with a beautiful smile, carrying a tray to a sunroom on the second floor if we desired to the maintenance man who calmly solved an electrical problem we had with a sincere desire to help in any way he could. The desk people were fluent in English, knew the city well, and anticipated problems before they existed. I would stay there again and i would never stay anywhere in the city but Palermo. This was my second visit to Buenos Aires. The hotel arranged a private tango lesson for me at the hotel with Cristian Javier Castano (www.tangopiola.blogspot.com. He was a great teacher for beginners and I enjoyed the lesson. The Sushi at the Japanese Gardens was terrific and I'm so glad we experienced the Teatro Colon even though we only had standing room. Went to Salon Canon to experience the tango and developed an appreciation for how much the local Portenos enjoy the dance.
My girlfriend and I spent a week at the hotel while I was attending a conference in the nearby fairgrounds. I found the staff very helpful, the room comfortable and clean, with no overbearing furniture. Design is sophisticated yet functional, making good use of limited room space. Internet access is a definite plus, as is the location in a nice neighborhood, we felt safe during the entire stay.
We had a window on the street with a small balcony, which was great for breezes, though there is a busy street below with the attendant noise it begets. Prices were middle to high, though for the location and staff, well worth it.
We recently went to Buenos Aires for vacation and wanted to stay clear of the big hotel chains and look for one more integrated into the neighborhood. We found a wonderful little hotel on your site and booked it. Despite the name -- Vain Boutique -- it was not pretentious or overly trendy. It was a clean, European-feeling hotel, small, with very attentive and friendly staff. The room was smallish -- but comfortable -- bright, and very clean. We stayed in the Palermo area and were close to many, many restaurants and little shops, the subte (subway), museums, and taxis were plentiful. The breakfasts were wonderful and pretty much limitless -- they had wonderful fresh fruit and breads everyday, which we appreciated, as well as other options, which was included in our plan.
They also had a wonderful sitting room upstairs with high ceilings, comfortable seating areas, as well as a rooftop seating area for sunny days.
Lastly, we arrived on an AM flight and they allowed us to check in early as well as stay in the sitting room later after our checkout until it was time to return to the airport. We appreciated this a great deal
Two small not-great things I would mention are that the beds -- while not uncomfortable -- are not the huge, plushy beds you might find in some of the chain hotels, and sound does carry through the hallways. We did not find the noise disturbing, but you are aware of the movements of others.
All in all, this was a fabulous place to stay and one of the highlights of the trip.
I traveled with my wife to BA for business and took a few days extra to explore. We booked into Vain for our first night before doing a 3 day trip to Mendoza and then again for a night when we got back so had the advantage of staying in 2 different rooms. Compared to the normal "chain hotels" I normally stay in for business this was a welcome break from the "standard room, shower and crappy coffee machine/hairdrier etc). The rooms were unique, clean and very comfortable and for half the price of the big names. The location was perfect for walking the funky and cool area that is Palermo/Soho; they even gave us umbrellas for the first wet day! Above all the staff were exceptional and provided us with great recommendations for dinner (as well as calling in reservations), where to go and what to see/do. The whole experience was thoroughly relaxing and just what we were looking for. If you want to stay in a "standard" US hotel with the normal surroundings and over priced rooms/bar/food etc then that's your choice, but you'll miss the joys of this fabulous small, boutique hotel, the friendliness of the staff and the "inside track" to the area and all it has to offer. We checked our bags we didn't need for the trip to Mendozza and they were waiting in our room when we returned.
Can't say enough good things about it for a unique trip to a great city and a stay in a great "hotel experience". US cities/tourists could learn a lot from ditching the big chain and going to the likes of Vain.
I should also point out we're no hip young things (happily married and in our 40's) but, with leaving the kids at home felt like we were in our 20's again. Go! Stay at Vain; enjoy. That simple
We booked a double room, which was comfortable, simply furnished, good bathroom with excellent shower. The hotel is housed in an old town house which has been extended, and is located near to the Plaza Italia metro station, a quick ride to downtown and amidst the bars, shops and restaurants of Palermo Soho. Reception was friendly and helpful throughout our stay and spoke English. Wifi is free, secured, and available both in the rooms and the lounge/breakfast areas. There are also computers provided for guest use. Guests have the use of a very attractive rooftop lounge with espresso machine and roof terrace. And the breakfasts are superb: a choice of freshly prepared hot dishes, really fresh fruit salad, cereals and excellent quality breads and croissants and good coffee (or tea). A great way to start the day. We were very impressed and thought the Vain an ideal base and excellent value.
