“Staying here became a fantastic part of my experience in Buenos Aires”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2010

Finding a place where I feel at home is important for me as I travel for a living every day of the year. This place was recommended by a friend and ended up being a place where we kept extending our stay in the city by several days staying here. Taking the time to get to know Hernan after all the advice he gave us about where to go and what to do in the city when we had questions became one of my favorite parts of being in the city. The house is well located to get around, quiet and safe. A place where I was able to recharge my batteries while on vacation.

I can't add more than the other excellent reviews: Hernan and Jimena run this lovely B&B in a beautiful traditional but renovated Buenos Aires house. Tidy, safe, charming.
You should try to convince Hernan to make one of his now-world famous ASADO in the little terrace on the rooftop. Bottle(s) of good Malbec is a must.
If you want to discover the city with a non tourist eye they will tell you about those little gems that BA has to offer you. Enjoy.

Hernan was always there to help with everything - restaurants, day trip to Colonia, Tango show, check in for our departure flight... And always smiling. The room was compact, but clean and in good condition. Shared bathroom was tip top and only a few steps from the room. Location is good for Palermo & restaurants, a bit of a walk to metro. Bus stops are only a couple of blocks away.

Great place to stay on a small budget in Buenos Aires. My wife and I spent a total of 4 nights on our ATW trip last year in September. Couldn’t have found a better place in terms of location (near to the action in Palermo Soho with all its great restaurants, boutiques, etc.), friendliness of the owners Hernan and his wife (very helpful in organising trips and alternative accommodation, recommending things to do, etc.) as well as value for money. Stayed in room La Celeste (3rd floor) – clean, bright room with AC and shared bathroom (on the small side). Other positives are free internet access and, in particular, the breakfast: Very sumptuous - breads and pastries with jams/dulce de leche, cookies, fresh fruits and juices and coffee/tea. One of the best in Argentina!

Our stay at Gorriti 4290 was comfortable. Hernan answered all of our questions about changing money, cell phones, and being able to put small items in the refrigerator. The room with private bathroom was spacious included a surprisingly large closet. The bathroom had a very inviting looking tub, but we did not see a means to stop the tub, so we used the shower, which had relatively low shower pressure but was fine. The breakfast was a lot of pastries with jams/dulce de leche, cookies, and a basket of fresh fruit with tea and coffee. Another nice feature at this B&B was that they provided a little bit of privacy when using the internet because it is located on the second floor, away from the common areas.

However, the best thing about Gorriti 4290 is its location -- it is within walking distance of the area that turned out to be our favorite for eating. La Cabrera (a must!) is about 10 minutes away and a great fish/vegetarian/pasta option, Artemesia is about 5 minutes away in the other direction.

The only negative comment I have is that the maid moved/rearranged some of our things when she cleaned the room (e.g., moving all of our shoes and luggage into the closet). I'd suggest tidying up after yourself before leaving the room. I think her nice gesture of moving things around ended up causing us to ended up leaving a few items there accidentally, perhaps left in the closet.

This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. I stayed for five nights and would have stayed longer if they had had any availability. It is in Palermo, but a few blocks away from the main shopping/restaurant area. It's in a less "touristy" area, but it definitely felt like a safe area (very residential). And best of all, it was just a short bus ride to most of the main tourist attractions (bus fare only cost about $0.25).

The only down side was the fact that we stayed for the first few nights in the one room on the ground floor. It was a bit noisy with the traffic going by. We didn't really mind because we are used to city noise, but it may bother some people. Later, we moved to a room on the third floor and it was far more quiet. So anyone interested in staying here should request to be upstairs.

The place was very well maintained. The sheets were nice and crisp. The mattresses were firm (no saggy uncomfortable mattresses here). The rooms had air conditioning. And the bathrooms, while a bit dated, were very clean.

Breakfast is sort of a continental style. Breads and pastries, fresh fruit, and coffee/tea/orange juice. There isn't any hot food, but breakfast is still fantastic.

The best part of the stay is the young couple that runs the place. Hernan is very responsive via email and extremely helpful. He was able to show us all the major bus lines to take us to the different tourist sites. He booked us a tango night that included transportation, dinner, lessons, and a show. He also booked us a day on a gaucho ranch which was fantastic. We wanted to stay an extra night, but unfortunately they were all booked up, but they were kind enough to call around and find us another room at a nearby hotel. It would have taken us much longer to make the reservations on our own given our limited language abilities.

The personal attention really makes this a great place to stay!

I stayed at Gorriti 4290 on December 16th, 2008. The property is located in the super chic Palermo area in Buenos Aires (about a 5 minute walk away to Plaza Serrano) and just minutes away by taxi/subte from the major tourist sites and museums in the microcenter. (es. I walked to the Malba in 30 minutes from the hotel)

Hernan, one of the owners of the home, responded immediately to my reservation request and was on hand when arrived early Tuesday morning! The provided breakfasts were fantastic, complete with real coffee, freshly baked pastries & bread, homemade jams, dulce de leche, fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice and even cookies!

My room was on the ground floor and while it faced the street, it was extremely quiet as the B & B is on a more residential street (no buses!) I selected a room with a shared bathroom and a small half-bath was located just outside my door. The larger bathroom was on the second floor and the B&B provided bathrobes to make the post-shower return easier! The owners have done their best to maintain the most charming and original fixtures in the house and this too lends to the homey atmosphere.

I highly recommend this B&B to young singles, couples and/or families. The owners were always on hand, but respected their guests privacy and the location can't be beat. It was like having my own home in the center of the city just minutes away by foot to some of the best restaurants, shops, cafes & bars in all of Buenos Aires.
