We were so pleased with our selection of Mine. We cant even begin to tell you how amazing the location is. Palermo Soho is, without question, the best place to stay in BA. There are amazing restaurants, shops, and tango halls all within steps of the hotel. (and we explored A LOT of the city). The hotel is just perfect....lovely design, creative rooms, fabulous breakfasts, and a refreshing pool. And the best part is the staff - they are so helpful its just amazing. They are the nicest people! The hotel even thought of the small things - like a DVD player in the room and free rentals (which is a nice way to relax before falling asleep after a long day). We loved BA and Mine. It was just perfection! Cant say enough good things!

You see, I think there's a fundamental problem with the whole "Boutique Hotel" philosophy. Small considerations, like space, light, air, peace, quiet, efficiency; all are subordinate to the pantheon of 'design'.

So it is with Mine Hotel, a tiny sliver of a building nestled into Palermo Soho, one of Buenos Aires' trendier (read: vapid) neighbourhoods. About three meters wide, and twenty-meters long, it still manages to nestle in three floors of rooms, a restauranty bar thingy and a tiny garden complete with bathtub. Sorry, swimming pool. All good, except that there are some severe issues that crop up as a result of this. Firstly, it is very noisy, not really mattering whether you're facing the street (traffic) or the garden (Phil Collins and Lift Muzak). Secondly, the rooms, have very obviously been sandwiched into every available crevice, making them small, oddly-shaped, and quite uncomfortable. Ours was a superior room and had barely enough width to scramble between the bed and the television, never mind the mini-me bathtub complete with completely incomprehensible shower controls. I shudder to think what the standard rooms are like.

The staff, however, were lovely: helpful and smiley, although many look like they could do with a few hours' more sleep. The beds were great, and the room and hotel in general spotlessly clean. The linens too were very comfortable - or would have been had builders not decided to start drilling holes in the walls outside the bedroom with no prior warning, thwarting my best efforts to sleep.

Maybe I'm being unfair - this is, after all, not the worst 'boutique hotel' I've stayed at: for that honor, check out my review of Athens' Semiramis. I do, however, think it is time to put an end to the whole 'boutique hotel' phenomenon: how about a return to the good old days of honest-to-god three and four stars without the obligatory trip to Ikea and some natty paint?

I travel all over the world for business and stay at top business hotels in the US, Asia and Europe. My wife selected the Mine Hotel for a family trip to Buenos Aires over Christmas. This hotel, in its own small way, ranks with top hotels anywhere. They provide so many wonderful and thoughtful touches -- daily weather reports slipped under your door, great amenities, a staff eager to help, great breakfast, a nice (though small) pool for relaxing, styled rooms with top quality beds and bedding, etc. I can recommend this hotel for anyone eager to enjoy BA, even the most discriminating traveler.

We stayed at Mine for 5 days during Christmas and it was the perfect place to stay. The rooms are nicely designed with vibrant colours. The staff and service was alway attentive and friendly but we quickly realised that the speed of service is not like London. Breakfast was very good with the most amazing grenola as my favorite, also lots of good pastries and fruit. The pool was the gem in a busy town where we spent most of the days before going shoppoing and dining.

This is truly a lovely hotel, and a real bargain. We stayed there just one night while in transit thru Buenos Aires. It is located in Palermo Soho, which is an interesting B.A. neighborhood with lots of good restaurants, and trendy boutiques. The public spaces of the hotel are very attractive, and the rooms are just as nice, if not overly large. The staff was very helpful, booking us into a very popular and excellent restaurant, as well as arranging our transportation needs.
