Although it is really nice, cute museum, it is not interesting at all to adults (well, maybe to children it might be quite exciting). However, as a consolation, the location of the museum is just amazing. From there, you can walk down the hill to the beautiful coastline. Mar del Plata is one of Argentina's (if not, South America's) best kept secrets.

The museum is very good for kids. To adults, not so much. The good things: the aquarium of stingrays and the enormous collection of shells. It's a good atraction, but if you already went to the Museo del Mar of Punta del Este, this place is not that great. It's too expesive for just a collection of shells ($30). But if you go, attention to the view of the buildings of the sorrounds, they are beautiful!

In a recent trip to Mar del Plata I had the opportunity to visit the Museo del Mar on Colon. A bit of a uphill hike from the main plaza to the museum. The museum has a website [--------------]. The entrance fee was very reasonable. The museum has an aquarium section that displays many of the native argentine fish. One floor but nicely displayed. A few small sharks and rays steal the show. There are a couple of floors of shells on display. Beautiful specimens from around the world. There is an art gallery. I suspect they rotate the artist that appears there. The paintings I saw were quite good. There is a small coffee shop within the museum. The top floor has a kids playground and nice view of the surrounding area. I would allow a couple of hours especially if you are into the shells. Good place to kill a rainy few hours in Mar del. They have a very tiny gift shop with only a few choices. Again a quick stop with kids and adults will surprisingly love the shells.
