I had arranged a private wine tour in Uco Valley and, as part of it, the tour included a fixed menu lunch at O'Fournier. What an amazing experience. You are presented with four different wines to taste, along with an appetizer, main course and dessert. I started with a very interesting appetizer that featured fresh vegetables and a poached egg inside the skin of a fried potato. I didn't know what to expect, but it was delicious!
The entrée was a huge cut of filet mignon that was cooked to perfection. I asked for it to be cooked very rare and it was done to perfection. They didn't offer chimmichurri (a local sauce you put on beef) but if you ask they will bring it and their chimmichurri was probably the best I've ever had. Dessert was pears with a malbec sauce along with a side of vanilla ice cream.
The restaurant itself is situated within the O'Fournier estate and has a nice view of a man-made lake. The waiters/waitresses are very attentive and friendly. There was a group of about 10 people at the table next to us and, as we were leaving, one of them came over and introduced himself as the owner of O'Fournier. Apparently he has lunch there every Sunday (the day we went). He was a very nice gentleman and it was an honor to have met him.
Urbano is a must-visit for any food/wine enthusiast coming to Mendoza!
