“Wot no wine tasting”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

A principal reason for our choosing this hotel was the anticipation of the wine tasting (that is after all why many folk visit Mendoza). The hotel had 2 wine tasting parlours which we thought would provide for convivial gatherings but, alas, while we were there, were not used.

Instead the large impersonal lounge was used with individual visitors sitting at separate tables, and the one glass of wine served at, seemingly, the staff's leisure. There were no sharing experiences which, in my view, should form part of the wine tasting adventure.

We were fortunate to have a corner room so had a fabulous view to the front. The side view overlooked buildings.

Concierge staff were very helpful.

Location was very good for restaurants and bars.

Dear Tony G

Hello and thank you for taking time to write about your experience here. Everyday we serve a free glass of wine for our guests, between 7:00 and 8:00 PM, and only in the bar. We invite the guests to chat to each other, but is not mandatory. Beside this, you can spend your time in our hotel taking a massage, or using the swimming pool. We also have a business centre, gym and spa. Also, if you decided to walk around, Diplomatic Hotel is surrounded by many stores, squares and parks.

Thank you for your visit and we truly hope to we get the chance to welcome you back one day!

It's not five star but it is a well run hotel with decent sized rooms furnished in a modern style. The plumbing is a bit below par. I had a loose shower head and no plug in the sinks. The breakfast , included, was offering a wide range of food which seemed very fresh. The staff are all very pleasant and enough of them spoke English so there were no problems dealing with them. It's location was excellent. It's an easy walk to Independence Square, past some good restaurants and not far from the street full of bars and restaurants the other way.

We stayed here for four nights while in Mendoza for some wine tasting. The room was very comfortable, well-equipped (including a wine decanter!) and the bathroom was large. The staff was very helpful.

We were there during Vendimia (harvest festival) and had a beautiful view of the fireworks from our room window. We were also just a short walk from the parade route and were able to see all of the parade floats - what a wonderful treat.

The location is great in terms of walkable restaurants (including great ones like Siete Cocinas and Ocho Cetas) and the great tasting room, The Vines. The restaurant right next door, Maria Antonia is a wonderful spot.

Breakfast at the hotel was included and had all of the hot and cold buffet items you might possibly want.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask to face the main street on a high floor - the view is beautiful

The Diplomatic was a great choice for a four day stay in the area to visit the mountains and the wineries. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff were polite and helpful plus a concierge is available on site to book tours. A complete and tasty hot and cold buffet breakfast is included in the room price. The restaurant offers a complementary glass of wine between 7 and 8 in the evening and then produces delicious inexpensive meals accompanied with a complete wine list having a large rang of prices starting at less than $10. The pedestrian shopping area was a short 3 block walk away. The Diplomatic is a great bargain if you are heading for Mendoza.

5 star in Mendoza had great beds and windows that open (take note all of you who crave fresh air in modern hotels!). However the large room (corner room) was void of any furniture with drawers for clothes. Toilet tissue not replaced (a might inconvenient when discovered) and rooms unpredictably attended to during the day. However, the beds were great and breakfast (included) was excellent. Staff very attentive.
Excellent gym with new working apparatus. Outdoor pool available.
Would stay there again if in Mendoza.

We stayed for three nights with two friends in February. We'd booked one room with a mountain view and one with a city view through Booking.com. Check-in was straightforward, the front desk wasn't too busy when we arrived. We'd both been given rooms with mountain views and it's worth paying a bit extra. On a clear day, the views are excellent.

The hotel's in a good location for access to restaurants and shops. We only used the hotel restaurant for breakfast which was served from 6:30am until 11:00am, catering for early birds and late risers. Breakfast was good with wide choice of fruits, juices and hot food. Reasonable coffee too. We ate out each evening; there are good restaurants in easy walking distance
.
We took advantage of the free wine tasting each evening, pity the samples were rather small!

No complaints about our rooms or the staff, all of whom were attentive and helpful. Our flight from Mendoza to Buenos Aires was in the evening so we arranged for our luggage to be stored while we explored a little more. We were given full use of the hotel facilities up until the time we left for the airport.

All in all, a good experience.

Mendoza itself is a city of extremes. There are some lovely parks and plazas but much of the city, especially pavements and open drains, is in a poor state. Be careful where you walk and what you tread in! We arrived late on a Friday. Saturday, Mendoza was deserted and Sunday didn't get busy until late afternoon. Most shops were closed and wine tours seem to be confined to weekdays.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the upper floors with a mountain view.
