We, 2 couples, ended our road trip through La Rioja, San Juan and Mendoza here at Chalet de Bassi - and what a nice place it was. We didn't only "stay" there - you became a small part of a great story and family.

The house was build by the "Bassi family", who came from Italy to Argentina in 1920, and it was finished in 1926. It is a big estate in the south of Mendoza, which back in time was "far" away from the center of Mendoza City. But soon it bacame the known by almost everybody as taxi drivers, busses, etc. used the Chalet de Bassi as the mark of change of the ticket prices, etc. This means that if you are in the city and you need a taxi back to the B&B, then you only have to mention the name. Just outside the door busses are passing by, which makes access to the city very easy.

The owner, a lovely lady, is in charge of the property and her children is attached too, which makes the family business perfect. They are all very kind and helpful and always ready to suggest and support. She greets you like your own grandma and treats you like if you were family.

There are different types of rooms, some in the main building and some newer connected to the building with direct acces to the garden. The prices are are from 130 - 200 Arg. Pesos, per night including breakfast. We stayed in the newest rooms and they were very nice.

We spend New Years in Mendoza, and after a nice evening at Don Mario's we returned to Chalet de Bassi and continued the evening/night with the owner and other guests - absolutely fantastic and we will never forget our stay here and neither the people.

3 nights were spend at the B&B and we can surely recommend it to everybody. It is very close to the "Routa de Vino", so go discover some of the very nice Bodegas in the area and taste some delicious vines.

Be aware of: No air conditioning - but there is a fan.

A gem......

Room Tip: When booking - ask for the new rooms with direct access to the garden, as they are quiet.

This is a great choice for budget travelers that do not want to stay at a hostel.
It is an old historic family home south of Mendoza in the Godoy Cruz area – closer to the wineries in Maipu and Lujan de Cujo areas. Situated on a busy corner during the day, the busses come by here and it’s easy to get into Mendoza or out to wineries.

We stayed in Mendoza for our first night and explored the central area, then booked here for our next 2 nights – to explore the wineries on our own.

Rooms are basic and clean, bathroom plumbing is older but works fine (except for a small leak we had putting a bit of water on the floor in an area - a mop was provided for wipe dry). It was quiet at night and we had the room in the back so had no problems with noise.

Rodrigo, his mother and his sister were all very friendly, hospitable and helpful – even though we only spoke a bit of Spanish. Rodrigo (knows English well) told us which busses to get and his sister even called the wineries to ask for the right numbered one. Some of the wineries are well south (Norton and Trapiche) so this is well situated for easy bus access.

A simple breakfast is included (juice, coffee, tea, bread, jam, cream cheese, duce de leche etc) and they have an internet accessed computer to use. There is a gazebo and pool in the side yard and other parties staying there used the parking area. There is a great chicken and tortas place right across the street and a wine shop down a block around the corner (just ask for plates etc and the Bassi family will provide). We ate dinner under the gazebo which was fun.

This is a well priced option for casual budget travelers that do not need or want the luxury extras of a hotel and like a clean, basic room and interacting with family owners.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter.

Room Tip: Las habitaciones más alejadas de la entrada alejan el ruido de la circulación de vehículos de la calle principal.
