“Not good at all.”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

We stayed there for one night and we had a terrible experience. The room was horrible. Cramped, no hot water and loud. It faced the road. The mattresses were very old and not supportive. The pictures on the website show an ambience totally different than what it is.
One good thing: breakfast was very good. Only!

The hostel it self is really ok, not that special and a bit over priced for what the offer. Our room was small but clean and of course we had an Argentinien breakfast. It's wonderfully located between the mountains, great scenery with a small river and some horses. The guy running the place was really friendly and helpful. Nice place to relax.

The place sounded exotic with its location up on the Andes on the half way of the bus ride to Chile. And the surroundings were great, got some very nice pictures after half an hour walk. We stayed in a cabin instead, because all double rooms were fullybooked. There was lots of space and it would have been very nice if would have been clean and warm...The food was very simple but eatable, maybe not value for the money though. The owner was nice and friendly and tried his best to help people to feel like home. The breakfast was ok, better level as in hostels in general. Maybe good for a one night stop, I am not sure if I would have stayed longer.

+ Good location, real outback feeling(if you don't mind the busy road to Chile in the backyard)
+ Great views
+ Indeed a very pretty creek nearby, not suitable for swimming though.
+ OK breakfast, bread, cereal, jams, scrambled egg.
+ we did the half day trekking tour, which took us up the mountains. Great view and friendly guide.
+ The tour which took us up to Cristo Rentendor and Punta del Inca, and brought us back to Mendoza, was really good value, with a guide that actually spoke english, and at AR$ 190 is was well priced.

- We stayed in a double with private bathroom. There were other peoples hairs in the bed and the bathroom wasn't clean either. For AR$ 220 per night you expect at least a clean room.
- Matress was completely worn and saggy
- No fan or A/C in the room, meaning that we had to keep the window open for some fresh air, which gave noise of the passing trucks all night
- The 'english speaking guide' of the trekking tour did only speak english at bare minimum level. We missed out on a lot of information
- The 'economic meals' (as stated in the brochure) were plain and expensive. AR$ 50 for plain pizza and empanada and AR$ 60 for bbq. The quantity was good, only the price was far too high for the plain quality.
- The owner tried to sell its own tours, which is ok but doesn't leave you much choice. We missed objective information about activities in the region.

The hostel was SO easy to get to because there was a bus stop right across the road from it. The staff helped us out with everything we needed and the food we got was amazing! The cemetery in Uspallata is an interesting stop and the hostel booked us a full day horse ride into the Andes. The horse ride/trek was by far THE best tour I have done in Argentina! The horses were so wonderful, the views were mind blowing, the trek up to 3200 meters was empowering and the guide was lovely. This hostel is PERFECT if you have been tripping from one city to the next and just want to see something other than a block of apartments and more open spaces than you see in the parks on the corner. I would recommend this hostel and the tour to anyone who can appreciate a good view and the wide open spaces!

Room Tip: We booked a 5 person dorm (there are a lot of different options) and it unexpectedly had it's ow...

We saw a flyer for this place in Mendoza which said it was 1km outside the Village, it was 7! it said it had a swimming pool, it did not. It said sit in the hot spring and look at the mountain, which are back in Mendoza! it was so expensive for a double we opted for a dorm and if that was anything to go by i dont thing the double could have been much better!! I cant even go there about the kitchen!!! the only good thing about this place was the sweet guy who was working there Gabrielle and the cute dogs.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Hostel, which we decided to stay at due to its promotion of hikes around the area. It started off well; we arrived by bus from Mendoza in the beautiful valley where the hostel is situated. It has a campground like look, and it appears relatively well maintained.

When we checked in, the first thing we did was ask about the local treks. The manager, Christian, immediately tried to sell two very high priced outings. The first, was a van tour of a few different spots around the area. The second was a mule ride up an area mountain. When we explained to him that we actually just wanted to go hiking all day, and that we'd really like to see the Aconcagua National Park, Christian did his best to dissuade us, saying that it was expensive to get there, took 2.5 hours, that we'd arrive back at the hostel around 10PM and that with the park fees, it would really be best to take one of his tours. Since there is so little information regarding day hiking in Aconcagua, we were really at his mercy.

Nonetheless, we decided to drop the subject and go to our room to think about what to do. Seeing some other travelers, we decided to ask them about their experience. Luckily, a nice Argentine couple encouraged us to go directly to the park ourselves.

As it turned out, Christian was wrong (lied?) about everything. The bus cost 22 pesos for both of us (about $5 USD), the park fees were 75 pesos (about $20 USD), the ride was only 1.5 hours, and the views were more spectacular than we could have imagined. It was incredible, independent, and cheap - everything that we wanted and nothing like what Christian described.

As regards the hostel, perhaps I've just gotten a bit too old for this kind of thing, but it was pretty rough, and for about $40 per night, simply not worth the effort to try and sleep in a place like that. In short, extremely loud neighbors with no hostel curfew, terrible beds, stuffy rooms with no fans or other ventilation - in other words, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. In fact, if you're trying to go cheap in this part of the Andes, a tent will serve you just as well and will save you $40 per night.
