“Not quiet what we expected”
Reviewed 4 December 2009

After reading previous reviews, we were a bit surprised when shown to our privare room, seemed dingy and a bit small so we asked for another one. They gave us a bigger room, the extra space helped but the beds were hard.
As we had to come back this way 5 days later we decided we would not come back to this hostel. Staff were pleasant, and it is not far from the bus station. Where we stayed next time was better and closer to the main part of the town,

Very friendly staff (although very little English spoken), free internet and wifi, good cont breakfas included, lots of hammocks to relax in, kitchen available, small book exchange, free water.

The only things they are missing compared to other places around here are TVs and a pool.

80p/nt for a double room with a/c, 50p/nt with just fan. Gave us a discount for staying 5 nights. Shows 90p on Hostelworld but they charge 80 and don't reimburse the 10% hostelworld fee. Was a bit confusing at first but I eventually got it.

Unless you really want a pool I'd say this place is a perfect spot for this town.

A great, comfortable and welcoming place to stay. A short walk from the bus station, but at the quieter end of town and the better for it.
Would definitely stay there again and would recommend to friends.
Downsides: no pool, most staff speak English but not all.

Really sweet quiet hostel in a very convenient location in Puerto Iguazu, near the bus station and plenty of restaurants. Really friendly guys managing the place who spoke enough English to answer my questions. Felt very safe, was clean and comfortable, always with hot water in the shower and also free internet. The breakfasts were very basic and the room was really quite cold at night, but I was there in a very cold snap in the middle of winter and they did provide lots of extra blankets. There is a pretty courtyard area with lots of hummingbirds and butterflies in residence! All in all, a bargain and recommended.

After a long day of travel, I was happy to find Puerto Canoas as advertised: quiet, off the beaten track, with air conditioning and hammocks in the courtyard. Friendly staff (though not so much English) that was helpful in handling transportation, and only a short walk to town. A nice respite from the heat of Igauzu. Recommended.

A clean and quiet hostel. Only two blocks from the bus station. All the rooms are located off a very pretty courtyard, that has hammocks you can relax on. Staff and very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very basic, but clean. Very basic showers in the bathroom, but they work.

First off, read the review from the user "Escadabelle". She has nailed it so good, I printed her review out and took it with me so I could use her tips for the area.

The hostel is great. It is located about 5-10 minute walk from the bus station and is close to restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Not that Puerto Iguazu is that big a town, but it's nice to be near most of the shops in town. Also, being located inside the town is a major convenience, so beware when booking other places that are located outside of town. You end up with few options once you return from the park.

We stayed in room 9, which was a double with a single. There was a small leak in the roof over the bed, but a little furniture re-arrangement fixed that. Also, the AC unit didn't work very well when we first got there. I took the screen off and saw that the filter was very dirty. I asked for another one, which was promptly brought to me. After I switched it out, the AC blew cold air from then on, sometimes even getting a little too cold. Also, the rooms are a bit sparse, so don't expect TV or any other amenities. What you will get is a clean room with a comfortable bed and, in our case, an attached private bathroom.

There is a computer in the main lobby which is available for everyone to use. The connection can get a little squirrelly, especially during a rainstorm, but other than that it seemed pretty fast. Also, there is WiFi available, but you have to ask for the passphrase.

The breakfast was good and you can ask for more dulce de leche, so what more do you need? There is definitely enough food to fill you up and keep you going until you get to the park.

The staff was great, though if you don't know at least some Spanish or Portuguese, you're going to be in for an interesting time. I didn't find anyone who spoke English, but I managed to use my high school Spanish and got through 3 days, even getting an airport transfer on the last day. By the way, if you want to use the Four Tourist airport transfer (the best option), you will have to get the desk clerk to call and make a reservation for you. Outside of the language issue, all of the guys there were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. One of them even lent us his umbrella on the last day when we ended up being unprepared for the sudden downpour (reminder: don't forget your rain jackets like we did). Also, feel free to leave bags with the front desk staff if you need to after you check out. The desk is always staffed and the entire place is very safe and secure. Our bags were put into a side room and not touched until we came back for them before our flight.

Keep in mind that this is *not* a party hostel at all. In fact, it is extremely quiet and subdued. If you are looking for a rowdy place with lots of booze, this is not it. This is a fantastic place for a calm, quiet place to come after spending all day at the park. You will find all kinds of guests here, from young couples to older ones. Highly recommended.
