“A lovely experience”
Reviewed 20 August 2010

Staying at the Aldea was a lovely experience. We spent five nights and were sad to leave. The beautifully crafted buildings of wood and brick are set into the forest. The entire ensemble is created with a keen eye for aesthetics and its natural setting. The rooms are very attractive, quiet and spacious. Breakfasts are bountiful and the dinner choices very satisfying. Being here, you really get to experience the natural setting with bird sounds and sweet-smelling plants while feeling right at home in the comfort of the lodge, your own room, the swimming-pool setting and the attractive wooden walkways through the forested property. We recommend this lodge enthusiastically.

This hotel should definitely remain closed in low season and needs very serious improvementes in terms of customer care, services and HR training.
The rooms are not fit for outside temperatures below 70F, which is pretty common in Iguazu in May/June/July/Aug there.
Humidity inside the rooms was incredibly high: prepare to send your clothes to a laundrette after a night there, since they will smell really bad.
The heating trough air conditioner was as noisy as a B747 taking off. The outdoor engine of it was permanently turning on-off the whole night long. We couldn't sleep till 2 AM and woke up again at 6 AM.
Remote control for the TV was not in the room when we get in, and had to be "stolen" from the adjacent room in order to see some TV. This happened after we complained for two of three times about this matter.
The Wifi wasn't not working in the rooms (very poor signal), so prepare to bring your PC to the lobby (5 minutes walk) to communicate with the world.
Also, impossible to communicate with the reception since your room phone won't work even if you discover that instead of dialing "O" as indicated in the minimalist room instructions, you have to dial "9".
Hot water usually came after 15 minutes of flushing. We had to turn on the hairdryer in the bathroom in order to get "a little" heat. The floor was frozen, not kidding.
As regards the breakfast, it was miserable. Fruit with no taste, dry bread nobody there to refill the coffee and milk pots, pastry counted (2 pieces each guest).
The reception guys, though being nice attitude, are absolutely "powerless" and won't solve you any problem. No idea where the manager was..Never seen anybody older than 25 years old.
We spent 143 US$ per night in B&B treatment, absolutely no value for money.
If you want a live a real nightmare, please do not hesitate to go

During a visit to friends and family in Buenos Aires, I decided to take my husband on a side trip to Iguazu. I chose this place primarily because it was new, and in the past I was unimpressed with more traditional resorts in Iguazu. This place was perfect for us. We loved the natural setting and the privacy of the cabins. Yes, the cabins are rustic, and you're in the woods, so if you can't handle the occasional spider or lizard you will not be happy there. But we kind of liked going into the bathroom to catch a glimpse of a little lizard hightailing it out of there; it reminded us where we were. Despite the critters, the cabin was very clean, as were the rest of the facilities, such as the swept walkways and well-maintained pool.

The location is great for getting around. The bus to the falls stops across highway, and the workers are very familiar with the schedule. Also, it was a short walk to La Aripuca, which is just a lovely little place to visit. It's also very cheap to get to and from the city in remises. Also, when we spoke to the manager about tours to see the Itaipu hydroelectric plant, he called a remisero friend of his and arranged for him to serve as our driver for the whole day, allowing us to visit Itaipu, the Brazilian side of the falls, and the city of Foz do Igaucu, all for less than other drivers had quoted us just for the ride to the Brazilian side of the falls. That's basically how all our interactions with the staff went - we would ask a question, and would end up with something much better than what we had asked for.

Yes, as others have mentioned, the food at the hotel was underwhelming, but I don't choose hotels for the food. Especially here, the hotel restaurant seems more like a service for those who don't want to go out, but they don't push it and the staff are quick to recommend excellent restaurants in town.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. I would agree with some of the posts, that the food is average, and the breakfast not so great if you get there late. The nice part of the hotel is that the rooms are set away in the Jungle, with a nice walk to the rooms from the lobby area.
We stayed for $100 a night which was a reasonably good value. I would not spend any more than that.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and the hotel setting is absolutely brilliant (it has its own jungle and the walk around is very well done so you feel really isolated). It was a little chilly to use the pool but it looked really nice so a bit of shame about that.

There wasnt really a bar area and only one sofa inside for the chilly nights but the food was pretty good (we ate there both nights of our stay)-we had the all you can eat meat night (certainly not for veggies!) that was ordered accidentally but turned out to be great value (75pesos per head-about £15) adn the sausages in Argentina are unmissable

The one let down was the room; as it was in the jungle it was dark which wasnt a major issue but it was damp and cold (nothing dried but they did put an electric heater and plenty of blankets in). The worst but was the generator which kept us up all night (being dive bombed by a giant moth was quite an experience as well!)

The staff were very friendly and helpful but go with a smattering of "menu" spanish as they dont speak English (and neither should they!)

Had it not been so noisy this was a really nice and definitely unique hotel and breakfast was of a good standard. Maybe because we went out of season but it did feel a little souless at times but if busy would have been really good place to be.

However, if you have the money stay at the Sheraton or Das Cataratas (Brazil side) as they really have the most amazing views and location!

This was a great and unique base in Iguazu, featuring a number of spacious lodges in a jungle like setting. Lodges have a balcony with hammock, and strategically placed umbrellas all around the site as it can get quite rainy!!

The outdoor pool is split into 4 smaller pools on different levels which makes swimming any distance tricky but is refreshing nevertheless.

Breakfast buffet is excellent - the usual Argentinian choices of cakes and anything sweet, along with bacon and great scrambled eggs. Ate a couple of light meals in the hotel which were OK but nothing special. There are some better choices in the town which is just a short taxi ride away.

Staff were helpful and would arrange taxis and give advice, free wi-fi in the hotel but the signal wasn't strong enough to reach the rooms, works fine in the lobby.

Overall a great choice

Constructed within the jungle in an environmentally appropriate way, one always has the impression that this hotel is not fulfilling its potential. We arrived during a particularly cold and rainy spell. My husband was sick. Stil, it took 3 calls to get someone to repair the heater that would only put out cold air. The rooms are dark and dank, though perhaps that is the fate of a jungle hotel. The great lodge room is terrific, with wonderful indigenous art on the walls and throughout. The casualness of the environment is very restful. Dinner serves up local fish, for example a smoky tasting sibaru cooked in a banana leaf, as well as other good dishes. Service is attentive. This is not for the traveler who wants to be in the middle of the action, as the hotel is located outside of town and Parque Iguazu. I would go back there on another visit with the hope that some of the inattention to upkeep has improved.
