Owner description: The Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum is one of Phoenix’s top-rated attractions. You can learn how airplanes were used throughout the history of combat and feel the radial engines on our Warbirds rumble as they come to life. Our museum is home to authentic war artifacts and hundreds of exhibits that chronicle the stories of people who rose to meet extraordinary challenges. Climb aboard one of the rarest B-17 Bombers in the world, “Sentimental Journey,” or better yet, book a once-in-a-lifetime ride on any of our seven flying WWII airplanes. Our friendly, knowledgeable docents will bring to life the tales of combat heroes like the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Air Service Pilots who overcame tremendous obstacles to serve our country. Watch aircraft mechanics at work and then stop by our PX Museum Gift Store for unique gifts and war memorabilia. As an educational non-profit 501(c)3, we are a great place for children to learn about the history that has shaped the United States.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Wheelchair access

Where else can you see an airwothy B17 and get to crawl through it. So much history and information to see and read about. The tour was most informative and interesting. Kids loved it!

We have visited this museum twice, once this March and a year ago. The museum is great and affordable, with a variety of WWII aircraft, as well as a few that pre-date WWII. The volunteers on the museum floor make it special, but the rides are unbelievable. This review is about flying. Last year the B-17 was not in service, but we had a ride in the B-25 and I took a ride in the SNJ. That was great, but the B-17 ride is even better. This is an expensive proposition - the B-17 burns 200 gallons an hour at about $5 a gallon. But, considering the cost of maintaining and operating these vintage aircraft, the prices are reasonable. If you can afford a flight, you will not be disappointed. Takeoff was fast with a rapid turn on takeoff to head out over the Superstitions. The flight is low enough that you feel you can reach out and touch the spectacular scenery. There are some less expensive alternatives than the B-17 and B-25, but if you can, go for the "big iron". The dedication and pride of the volunteers who fly, maintain and operate these beauties, comes straight through. Realizing that kids (officers - pilots, navigators, bombardiers were about 22-25, gunners were in their teens) risked all - often not returning - flew and fought in these aircraft makes this one of the most rewarding experiences we've ever had.

As an Air Force family, we are no strangers to aircraft in museums or air shows. After two tours at the Pentagon, we were regulars at the Air & Space museum in D. C. and and have even been to the Air Force museum in Ohio. The true gem of this small but packed museum is its volunteers and what must be a labor of love for them. We spoke with two different gentlemen who were an endless source of information. The chance to sit up in the cockpit and front gunner seat of the B-25 was one in a million as well. The rooms containing artifacts of the Doolittle Raiders and other key groups and events of West rival those at the Air Force Museum. Please visit and spread the word about this treasure! Thank you to Mike and Clint for letting us bend your ear with our endless questions!

The museum may look small from the outside, but yes, it surprisingly is packed with wonderfully informative displays with detailed explanations on the planes. The information on the veteran cemeteries in Europe was also very poignant. The docent led tour in the back room with the restoration of old planes was a delightful ending to our tour. We were also able to walk through one of the bombers. The end of our tour was going outside to see a WWII bomber take flight at noon. That impressed all of us in the crowd. There are addition planes outside. A worthwhile museum visit.
