Omg! Had a great time on the salt river. At first nervous that the college kids might be out of hand since we were bringing our kids. The college kids were great, friendly, polite and respectable. My kids ages were 13, 12 and 11. We seen wild horses twice drinking from the river that was pretty awesome to see.

Before I start, I will preface this by saying that this is tubing experience is typical of all tubing experiences in its inconveniences and risks--there are rocks on the bottom of the river, as with all natural bodies of water, so you want to wear shoes of some sort when you go (we always wear clear rubber sandals, those of you who go into fresh water a lot, you know the ones I'm talking about). As with all bodies of fresh water there is a risk of bacteria or protozoa infections because the water is not chlorinated.

To me, those observations offered by other reviewers regarding the experience of Salt River are typical of any tubing experience and should not reflect negatively upon Salt River, as is the experience of getting sunburned really badly, which will happen if you don't wear at least SPF 30 waterproof sunblock and if you don't reapply it at several points, particularly at Salt River because the sun in Arizona is very strong and you are immersed in water, which is reflective.

Having said that, what does detract from the experience at Salt River is that it is indeed darn crowded. There are not many water attractions in the desert, as you can imagine, so this one gets ridiculously packed sometimes. While the scenery is fantastic and still bucolic, there are going to be a lot of people on the river with you. I agree with the reviewer (reluctantly) who recommended not bringing small children, mostly because there are a lot of teenagers on the river sometimes who have been drinking, and their language is sometimes not suitable, and when you're in the middle of a river in a tube, there's not much you can do about it!

I love tubing down river and have done it in many states, and in spite of the crowds, Salt River is still one of my favorites. It's gorgeous, there's ample parking, it's convenient to get back to your vehicle, the river moves at just the right pace, and the tubing rentals are affordable and it is not mandatory that you rent (some places don't let you bring your own tubes). If you like tubing down the river, I recommend Salt River.

the river is a great time. the sun is strong and you will get sunburned. Unfortunately the water is laden with bacteria and if you have a cut on your foot it can get infected easily.

My husband and I did the full float trip on tubes. We enjoyed the scenery very much. Wild Horses eglets cranes amazing rock formations. It was a busy weekday float a lot of young college kids. My husband sustained 3rd degree burns on his legs. Sunscreen is a must. Water and food a little planning goes a long way.

You can bring your own or rent tubes for the river. The scenery is beautiful and different at every bend. Sometimes horses and cattle will come down a drink at the river as you float by. Make sure you bring some old gym shoes due to the slippy and rocky bottom which I don't recomment bringing small children. Make sure you bring some drinking water and sunscreen while here or anywhere do any activity in the valley!!!!!
