There is absolutely no one else in this hotel but me. Due to construction outside or what I'm not sure. Check in went pretty smoothly however not overly friendly at the front desk. As I go upstairs to my room the hallway is sweltering hot as well as my room. It took all night for it to come down to a temperature that was bearable. Rooms are clean spacious and quiet. The bed is reasonably comfortable. Breakfast in the kitchen was pretty pathetic; notes for everything you're supposed to do for yourself. ie use the microwave to heat up a sausage biscuit. For the price this is a very reasonable hotel.

... due to road construction on Main St.

Literally only a handful of other guests at the place.

Got a great bargain rate due to the construction.

The hotel has the feel of the '90s. Not the 1990s, but the 1890s! It might work for an upscale boutique hotel, but it definitely does not work at all for a budget motel in 2014. It felt very awkward.

The room was spacious and tastefully appointed. Nice light fixtures and crown molding. But the TV, in-room refrig and microwave are all vintage 1990.

And my favorite pet peeve: if a hotel goes to the expense of putting alarm clocks in the room, why can't your housekeepers take the time to make sure the clock is plugged in and is showing the correct time? WHY? WHY? WHY?

"Continental breakfast" was acceptable. Nothing fancy or tasty.

The swimming pool and the grounds were nice. Some of the tallest palm trees I have ever seen in AZ.!

Here is the straight scoop on this hotel. After stopping at the Circle K down the street prior to arrival she was very concerned about staying in this area. Every thug in Mesa seemed to be there. When I checked in I noticed they had good video coverage of the entire property. You need to have a room card to get in the hall to get to your room. We put everything in the room as we were uncomfortable about leaving anything in the car. The rooms are very nice and spotless with a great bed, fridge and Microwave. The free internet checks in at around 3.5 MPs. Also has a coffee maker. We ventured out to the pool and Spa. Very Clean though a few of the lounge chairs could be replaced. Stayed there for awhile and had it all to ourselves. Went back for a little TV. Old tube type TV but it worked well. Went out to eat and never noticed any unsavory people hanging around coming or going. Great quiet nights sleep. Went to the exercise room in the AM. Real nice equipment and like the rest of the property it was spotless. It was off to the free breakfast. Very nice. Coffee, juices, waffle maker. cereal, milk, toast, yogurt and biscuits and sausage to microwave. Pastries and Fresh fruit was also available. Enjoyed all that with a free copy of USA Today. Back to the room to Shower and pack up. The staff was great. I think the bad reviews come from guests who were either trashing the room or sneaking in more guests than they paid for. The folks running the place are all about keeping it clean and safe and I doubt if they put up with much bad behavior. Good for them. Only downside here is the neighborhood and they seem to do a fantastic job of keeping out the riff raff. All in All it was great.

My daughter and I headed dow the the Valley to find her a car. At the last second, I decided to stay in this Clarion rather than a comparably priced motel we had used before. This was a good choice!

The biggest challenge with the Clarion is the construction along Main Street. It is a mess, but it was not too difficult to get in and out.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the exterior is not much to look at. The room we booked, however, was more than adequate. Our room had two double beds and was pretty spacious. The beds were very comfy and I loved the pillows! The Internet service was excellent and without a glitch. I did not eat the breakfast, but my daughter said the selection was really good and she had no trouble finding something she liked. The rooms are accessible via and inner corridor. That provides an added level of security that we liked.

I had to ask the staff for some help with a clogged toilet. The worker came immediately, without complaint, and got the problem taken care of.

All in all it was a very positive stay. The location was perfect for the areas we needed to do business with (Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe). I will definitely give this Clarion another visit when we need to stay the night in the Valley. Check this one out!

My husband and I stayed at the Clarion Inn, in Mesa, for four nights May,2014. It was a very positive experience. Check-in went very smoothly. I had requested a 2nd floor room near the back, and that is exactly what was provided. When I made the reservations, I was told that there was no elevator and there were stairs to climb. Room was very clean, and well kept. free Wi-Fi, a balcony, Fridge and Microwave, good TV with lots of channels. Excellent breakfast provided in a small room, but seating for 10 more at a bar across wall made a lot of room to eat. Especially enjoyed the sausage-biscuits! There was a very nice pool area, complete with spa, exercise room and sauna. Chairs were a bit old, but it was immaculate! Staff went out of their way to be helpful. One was so outstanding that I awarding him a TripAdvisor Thank You Pin. The only thing that I would add would be a couple of chairs on the balcony. We would have loved sitting out overlooking the lovely pool in the evening. We will definitely stay there again!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool.

I've stayed here many times - this review reflects my most recent stay in May, 2014.

From the outside, the motel appears old and tired. The fact that the road outside is torn up as they build the light rail extension doesn't make it easy to access the hotel, as one must approach the property headed eastbound only on Main Street. And while the lobby is nice and upgraded, the interior corridors do show signs of wear and tear. But not to worry ... once inside the room, you'll find that the rooms are surprisingly nice -- quite comfortable and quiet, and, for the price, good value is delivered.

The rooms are of ample size, with comfortable beds, choice of pillows, a decent work desk, a small fridge, and the second story rooms have walk-out balconies - a nice touch. The bathrooms have been upgraded with granite and have the usual assortment of tiles and Clarion amenities. The shower delivered an ample stream of hot water, and the room itself was quiet. I had no trouble enjoying a comfortable night's stay.

There is a small breakfast room serving a variety of breakfast items from 6:00am until 9:00am each day - including a choice of cereals, do-it-yourself waffles, juices, coffee, hard boiled eggs, sausage biscuits, breads/bagels, and the like. But if you're hungry, be sure to get down there before 9:00am, because at 9:00am sharp, the door is closed and no one else is admitted. The seating area is also fairly limited, with only 4 small tables and a counter at which to eat. But one can piece together a fairly decent breakfast from the items that are available. Just be sure to get there by 9:00am. Not 9:01am... 9:00.

I found the staff to be courteous and helpful at both check-in and check-out.

Drive time to/from the Phoenix airport is about 20 minutes in moderate traffic. The addition of the light rail will make it possible to get to/from the airport, Arizona State University, and downtown Phoenix without a car.

There are various dining and shopping options just a short drive from the hotel.

A variety of discounts are available at the hotel brand website. The Clarion brand is one of the Choice Hotels brands, and the Choice Privileges frequent guest program offers some tremendous promotions, which is one of the reasons I choose to stay here when I'm in Phoenix.

Overall - a nice property - not fancy, and a good reminder to not judge a book by its cover.

Room Tip: 2nd story rooms have walk-out balconies.

This hotel is a motel-style hotel. It has been renovated and it's relatively nice inside with newer colors and furniture. The free breakfast is also nice with hard boiled eggs, waffles, Danish, coffee, juice, cereal, fruit, and more. Although the property seems safe, it is in a bad part of Mesa (west). There are lots of shady characters walking around on Main street. There is lots of construction going on, so at the moment it's a little less than usual but it's definitely not-so-nice area.
Also, we visited last week and the pool, although full, was not ready for use. It was very dirty, as was the hot tub, so we didn't get to use them even though it was 94 deg outside.
There are no safes in the rooms, even though they are advertised. We stayed in two rooms, no safes.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool. They have a door leading outside and seem much safer.
