“Love the place!”
Reviewed 6 December 2009

My daughter and i arrived to Casa Hernandez after a 20 hour bus trip from BA. What a relief to have Alex open the gate with his cherry smile and warm welcome. After helping us get change to pay the cab.....(always have change if possible) we were shown our room, very nice by the way, and Alex and Reika helped us get the car we ordered that didn't show up at the bus station. Without their help, I am not sure how we have secured our car. So service is great here. We decided to stay there for the evening as we were too tired to go into Salta. There is a very good restaurant just around the corner and I would recommend it. We had a relaxing night by the pool, with a good bottle of wine. The next morning, Alex went over a map with us and helped us plan our trip. We wanted to come back after 2 days in the north but they were booked up so I recommend that you book early. You won't regret it. It was one of our favorite places and we would go back there in a minute if only we could.

The best part about our stay in salta were alex and rijkje, expats from Holland who are fluent in most languages including english. From the moment we arrived (early) they devoted their constant time and service to us. Even though there are five rooms we felt like we were their only guests. The part that is so important is that they know their area and things to. We rode horses up into the hills, ate at the greatest restaurants, but reasonably priced, and visited with all who were from Spain, Holland and France. They have advised us on other places to stay and we will follow their lead. I can't believe we paid so little for so much. This is a find......

My wife and I reserved 5 non-continuous nights with Casa Hernandez as our base for a driving tour of the Northwest including the Quebrada de Cafayate and Quebrada de Humahuaca. The quiet San Lorenzo location was perfect for our purposes. Salta was easily and inexpensively accessible by a nearby direct local bus. An excellent restaurant, a good pizzeria, great ice cream outlet and other services were all within a short walking distance of Casa Hernandez. The guesthouse had high standards in every respect. But most impressive were the owners, Alex and Rijkje, who clearly enjoy and excel in their role as innkeepers. We knew from the outset that we were in good hands and felt when returning from each of our long driving excursions that we were coming home.

I selected this B&B based on the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor but was still a little bit concerned before arrival because of the low rates being offered. Well, no worries, the experience was fabuous in every regard - the other reviewers have said it all. We really enjoyed meeting the other guests who represented a real mix of age groups and nationalities and cannot say enough about the hosptiality provided by Alex and Rijke.

When everything is going well, it's easier for your hosts get the accolades. It's when things go wrong that they truly have a chance to shine and go wrong they did. At the airport on the way to Salta, I had my purse stolen, containing all my money, credit cards and our passports. As you can imagine, there was a lot of decompressing and administration required when we arrived at Casa Hernandez. Alex and Rijke rose to the occasion. They first offered comfort (and cold drinks!), followed by liberal access to the telephone and computer to start wading through all the paperwork. I don't know what I would have done without all their help and support - I cannot imagine what would have happened if we had been staying at a large impersonal hotel. We felt that we were under the wing of family and a terrible experience was made much more bearable because of their kindness. You will not go wrong if you choose a stay at Casa Hernandez.

Having stayed in dozens of B and Bs world wide, without reservation we recommend Casa Hernandez. The location in San Lorenzo is perfect with quick bus or taxi into Salta. Alex and Rijkje are the best hosts one can find. It is a great bargain at twice the present prict. Comrotable beds and wonderful louging areas. What a respite from traffic and noise. Excellent restaurants near-by, even a castle in which to dine. A lovely "wilderness" park in which to walk. You will not be disappointed in any way.

After a really great 6 day trip round the Salta region with an excellent guide David Martinez [--] we need to relax and chill out so rather than staying in downtown Salta we choose Casa Hernadez which is a 15 min bus ride outside Salta in the leafy suburb of San Lorenzo. It is run by a lovely Dutch couple Alex & Rijkje who have travelled themselves in the past so they treat guests as they would like to be treated themselves. It is an really nice large house down a quiet side road. The rooms are large and very comfortable, we had the comfort room which had really nice en-suite facilities. Breakfast was outside in the large garden and there is a nice swimming pool to relax by. Close by are some great places to eat or just get an ice cream and if you want to visit the museums in Salta then these are only a 1.25 peso (15 min) bus ride away. The house and facilities are great but it's Alex & Rijkje with their great personalities and laid back attitude which make it a real pleasure to stay at Casa Hernandez. We highly recommend their home and one day would hope to return and spend more time with them. P.S. - this place was the best value for money during our 19 day stay in Argentina

Very welcoming, helpful and spontaneous couple running this perfect B&B, making their dreams and those of their guests come true. Nice atmosphere, beautiful and spacious rooms, delicious breakfast, beautiful garden. What can we say more, we would have liked to stay and relax for a week if they would not have been fully booked. Would recommend this to everybody and hope to be back some day.
