We were going to stay in Salta but are so glad we choose Casa Hernandez for a 3 night stay (wish it had been longer). It was more like visiting friends than staying at a hotel. The owners are fun loving, friendly and very helpful in advising you of all you can do in the Salta area. Their home is lovely especially the large garden and they share it all. We had use of their kitchen (wines, beer, and soft drinks & more at hand on a replace basis), enjoyed sitting in their living room, used the computer area and really enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. The superior room was large and opened on to the lovely backyard. This is a perfect place to use as a base for exploring the NW Argentina area. Make sure you include at least a couple of days to "veg" around the pool..... We will definetly come back here if we return to Salta!
Thanks Alex and Rijkje, you were the very best hosts we have ever had! Judy and Steve

I can only echo other reviews, this place fully deserves its top ratings. What makes it so good?
1/ Alex and Rijkje's fantastic hospitality. They greet you like long lost friends, and make time to give you maps and information about Salta and the area over a free beer in the garden. Anything you need they can't be more helpful. This alone would be worth five stars.

2/ Beautiful rooms that are excellent value. We stayed in the superior double room for AR$180, which is definitely the best value room of our trip in Argentina. It is very spacious with a wonderful bathroom and patio doors out to the garden. It would be decent value at 50% more. The standard rooms were also well decorated and comfortable, but the superior room is definitely worth the exta.

3/ Great location. I thought when booking that a place 6km outside Salta would be a minor disadvantage but wouldnt mattter as we had a car. In actual fact San Lorenzo is a BETTER place to stay than the centre of Salta. Its where rich Saltenos live and where less afluent ones come to enjoy the countryside at the nearby Quebrada. The bus goes every 10-15 minutes and takes 15 minutes and a taxi back late at night costs only AR$20-25, so we didnt even need to use our car whilst there. And there are a couple of nice restaurants within 100m. And a lovely garden with a swimming pool. What more can you want?

thanks so much Alex & Rijkje for a lovely stay!

I don't know if I can add much more to what others have written.
This place fully deserves its (near-unanimous) 5-star ratings.

Alex & Rijkje are fantastic people - they have put a LOT of work into making this casa beautiful, and they put so much of themselves into making every guest feel welcome and at home. I felt like it WAS a home of mine, after only 2 days there! Wonderful, excellent people.

The place is fantastic - beautiful, serene, comfortable, and a good breakfast is served in the morning. My only regret is I did not swim in the pool! Lots of green scenery around, very peaceful ambience, friendly other guests who also stay there, and a short walk to restaurants, market, farmacia, & bus stop.

When I arrived & was looking for things to do around Salta, Alex sat down with me and gave me THREE maps (one of San Lorenzo, one of Salta and one of the area), pointing out places I might want to visit. Sadly, I did not have time to explore all of his suggestions, but all of the ones I hit were just great.

Outstanding find - thank you others for your 5-star reviews of this place. I am happy I found it.

We arrived in Salta after a long hot drive across the Chaco. Casa Hernadez, tucked away in a quiet residential street in the leafy town of San Lorenzo seemed like an oasis. Alex and Rijkje are wonderful hosts, friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, informative and multi lingual. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and the garden setting provides a peaceful ambience. Rijkje's breakfast in the grapevine shaded outdoor dining area accompanied by the sounds of the prolific local birdlife was a great way to start the day. Alex took the trouble to understand our special interests and provided excellent advice on local trips in and around Salta. Casa Hernandez provides easy access to the many interesting sights of the city of Salta as well as to areas of fabulous scenery in the nearby sections of the Andes. The town of San Lorenzo is quite an affluent area with large homes in spacious gardens and a generally more tranquil atmosphere than the bustling streets of Salta. San Lorenzo is only a few minutes drive from Salta and regular buses are available as well. It has some very good local restaurants, some within easy walking distance of the Casa Hernandez. We had 4 nights at San Lorenzo and wished we could have stayed longer.

We had a wonderful time in Casa Hernandez, you feel very welcome the moment you step in the casa. Mainly because of the very friendly host Alex and Rijkje.
The casa has the perfect atmosphere, relax, quiet and an amazing huge garden with a nice swimming pool. The rooms are very spacious, clean and the best beds! All rooms have garden view, great to wake up with the sound of the birds!
The breakfast is delicious, fresh homemade bread, eggs.. excellent!
San Lorenzo is a lovely quiet village just outside Salta, very easy to reach by 15 min bus ride. Bus stop is 100 mtr walk away at the end of the street, same as a great pizzeria, a very nice arg.restaurant, heladeria ( ice cream shop ) supermarket, cash machine... etc.
We would highly recommend to stay here, a perfect hidden gem!!

We stayed only one night at Casa Hernandez with deep regret that we did not spend all our time in Salta there. Alex and Rijkje are welcoming and easy going, interesting, full of knowledge of the area, their home is wonderfully peaceful, exceptionally clean, with good food and a well stocked fridge. It's close enough to Salta city that you can easily bus in and out of the city and San Lorenzo is a little oasis overlooking the city. It's so easy to use Casa Hernandez as your home base with day trips to Cafayete, Jujuy etc. don't even think of not staying there if you are lucky enough to get a room.
I wish there was a rating higher than excellent.

We are so happy we decided to stay at Casa Hernandez during our honeymoon in Argentina. It is an extremely charming and comfortable ranch style home in the outskirts of Salta (much preferred to staying in Salta!), surrounded by beautiful natural scenery . You can read more about the actual house, area, and really affordable rates on their website. What the website won't tell you about is Casa Hernandez's best asset: the owners, Alex and Rijkje. They are an INCREDIBLY friendly Dutch couple that will go out of their way to make your stay as nice as possible. Whether just sitting outside chatting over beers, helping us plan the remainder of our trip in Argentina, or getting up at the crack of dawn to make sure we had breakfast before our departure, they are uniquely gracious and genuinely friendly. If we ever make it back to Salta, we will no doubt stay there again. By the way, they are fluent in at least English, Dutch, and Spanish...probably a couple more.
