“Tranqui trangui :)”
Reviewed 13 October 2010

We arrived late at night and were greeted by a smiling Alex and a cold beer, that´s a winner reception any time! Alex and Rijke are perfect hosts who are funny and will help you any way possible, and at the same time they are laidback and give you the space you need. The rooms are light, spotless and nicely decorated with a big bathroom. The house itself has a livingroom, diningroom and a tv-room. You can look forward to a perfect breakfast with freshly home made bread and the best scrambled eggs ever. In the backyard you can relax by the pool with a beer or enjoy a your lunch under the avocado tree while listening to the birds. It`s tranqui tranqui to quote Alex :) The house is in San Lorenzo so to get to Salta you need to have a car or take the bus (approx 10 min). There are loads of "soo beautiful places" (Alex quote) to visit by car in the area .You got some restaurants in San Lorenzo, the rest is all about peace and quiet. Go there and enjoy!

We stayed here for just 2 nights but it just wasn't enough. Alex and Rijkje are the perfect hosts in a typical house/B&B 10minutes outside of Salta in a wonderful suburb called San Lorenzo. After our welcome drink around the dining table with Alex and a great chat about our trip so far, he talked us through the best bits of the Salta region and showed us a few hidden gems of restaurants to visit which a typical tourist would never go to. They made our stay perfect with a simple but gorgeous breakfast each morning and useful tips on what to do and where to go . They even organised for a gaucho cowboy to come and pick us up at the doorstep!

Literally 200 metres up the road from the house there is a great set of shops that serve the local community well. A coffee shop, ice cream parlour, great Italian restaurant, chemist and supermarket all with gourmet products. It really is a great place to stay for a few days. Also they have one of Salta's best local restaurants around the corner. A great introduction to Argentina's fabulous steaks and wines.

They only have 4 rooms, so make sure you don't miss out on staying at this special place.

We'll be going back one day soon...

Alex and Rijkje are such great hosts that this B&B feels like a home away from home. We arrived in Salta very late one night (past midnight) after a 14 hour bus journey. Not only did Rijkje stay up to greet us, but she made us feel comfortable straight away, even apologizing for giving us a slightly cold room (they were having an unusually cold winter that year).

Breakfast is great at a communal table so you can meet your guests. Rijkje was great with helping us plan what we would do in the north-west, and very understanding about us changing our booking at the last minute.

The rooms are large and comfortable, and as the village of San Lorenzo is a little outside Salta it has a quiet, leafy feel to it.

I think these guys show what real hospitality is all about, and it shows in all the great reviews that they get.

After a week of tramping around the desert in San Pedro de Atacama it was so wonderful to come to Alex and Rijkje's bed and breakfast. The rooms were large, clean and tastefully decorated. Our window looked out onto a lush backyard with a swimming pool. The common spaces were equally gorgeous decked out with comfortable couches, books and cosy heating. The hosts were gracious, friendly and full of information about the surrounding area. They went out of their way to help us. The breakfasts were enormous. They included home made bread with fresh coffee and frothy milk. We loved our stay here and thoroughly recommend it.

We arrived in Salta on June 28, 2010 for a five day stay that involved traveling south to Cafayate and Tafi del Valle in Tucuman province. I had contacted Alex and Rijkje months earlier to see if they had a room available for June 28 and for July 2. Alex immediately responded and said "of course."

We did not know until we arrived that Alex and Rijkje specially accommodated us as they were closing for a short period and had not intended on reopening until July 1. Such kindness extended to travelers makes you immediately appreciate that this is a special place run by very special people.

When we returned from our southern route tour, we arrived back at Casa Hernandez at about 12:40 pm. As we pulled onto the property Alex greeted us with a huge smile and a big hug. Holland had just scored its second goal against Brazil in the World Cup. Alex and Rijkje and their two Dutch friends with two small children, all clad in bright orange, immediately invited us to join them in the victory celebration.

Casa Hernandez is located in San Lorenzo several kilometers northwest of Salta city and several hundred meters higher. There is a substantial temperature difference between the hillside slopes and central Salta making San Lorenzo a beautiful, green, and comfortable setting. It is worthy of visit in and of itself.

Alex and Rijkje maintain a beautiful home in a lovely area. Coupled with their down home hospitality you cannot find a better place or nicer people to stay with when touring this area.

As an aside when we told Argentinians that we were traveling to Salta province, without exception, they said we had chosen to visit some of the most beautiful places in Argentina. Salta la linda or Salta the beautiful accurately describes every place we visited as well as the people we met.

I don´t need to say much as all the other reviews have pretty much said it already. We stayed at Casa Hernandez in April 2010 and absolutely loved it. There is a warm, friendly welcome from the owners into their beautiful home where you will stay in a lovely, peaceful room with nice comfy beds. Any questions you have about what to do in and around Salta are readily answered, and we were given several recommendations (for a restaurant, spa and car hire) that worked out perfectly. Our one concern before arriving was that being 20 minutes outside Salta itself might be a bit of a pain, but in fact this turned out to be a blessing as the setting is beautiful, with a couple of nice restaurants and various activities (walks, horseriding) to do nearby, and the bus into Salta is an easy 20 minute ride. To top all this, we thought the place was an absolute bargain for the high quality of the experience - definitely check out Casa Hernandez if you´re heading to Salta.

Rustic Casa Hernandez is owned by the warmhearted Alex & Rijkje, who will make you feel right at home. Rooms are clean, well-decorated and have modern bathrooms. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden, where you can swim and have breakfast. Alex and Rijkje treat you as though you are their personal guest, without being too obtrusive. Located just 5 kilometres from Salta. Great value for money!
