“Don't stay in this hostel”
Reviewed 22 December 2009

Arrived at this hostel in the evening as has been on the bus from Chile and although it seemed a little rough at the start decided to stay for the night rather than try to find somewhere else- big mistake!

Things which are wrong with this hostel:
1) everything is dirty- like really dirty;
2) sheets are really old and horrible;
3)whole place was falling down- bathroom and kitchen were ancient and in terrible condition;
4) in our room there was evidence that there had been a fire around where the old light fitting had been- it had been moved, but still!

Good things: it is six blocks from the centre and the staff are not unfriendly- that is all!

Also the next day after we had changed hostel we walked past and there was a sign up which said- fumigatorio- I can only imagine this means fumigated!

The Hostel staff are well meaning and fairly helpful and the bar is nice with good views. It is a shame that the rest of the building is really grotty and the whole place could do with a paint and a refit. The bathroom nearest to us was very dirty with a blocked plughole so the bath filled with water when the shower was used (although we didn't try it as it was filled with scum from previous users).There is only one computer available for general use. The pillows and linen are old and worn. Having said all of that it is cheap!!!

We booked this place based on the lonely planet review and we needed a hostel because we were arriving late at night from a long bus ride.
We arrived and the outside looked okay, we went in and it was very busy with lots of people around - usually a positive sign.
We were then showed to our room which felt like it was in a dungeon, no widows or ventilation. We pulled back the cover on the bed to find very worn and thin sheets that did not hide the fact that the bed was old and very stained. We then looked at the pillows and they looked like they had never been changed. The sheets seemed clean, but based on the state of the mattress and pillows we were glad we had sleeping sacks (which was used!).
In addition the washroom closest to the private double room (ours) was not very good, the toilet would not flush properly and I didn't even want to use the shower. The next closest bathroom was not much better, very old and worn - although it did seem reasonably clean.
We quickly went looking for a new hostel early the next morning (found an amazing hostel called Inti Huasi, highly recommend) and would never return here again.
