I can't say enough great things about Estancia Las Tacanas. Beautiful appointed room in an 18th century Jesuit mission building. The owner, Solano, is incredible as well. We arrived without a car and he personally drove us around the valle and explained the wonderful history of the place. Not only was it a great place, but the attention of the staff was simply amazing. Cannot say enough good things about this place and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Tafi has a bit of a beach town vibe in a valley in Northern Argentina, and some places can be very lax. This estancia was a lovely surprise though. The property is set back a bit from the road and very tranquil with amazing views of lush mountains. We were greeted by the owner and given a tour of the property and explained its whole history, which has been in his family for generations.

Our room was rustic but clean and comfortable. I could have done without the old TV though, it just takes away from the charm of the place. On the night we were there there was a huge rainstorm, so we sat with the owner on the porch and shared a drink, some cheese, and good conversation. Our first night out of Buenos Aires in a long time and we were able to breath fresh air.

Buffet breakfast was plentiful and nice, served in the little dining room. The common areas are great to relax and look at the modern art, which is an interesting contrast to the antique house. All in all, an enjoyable stay.

I (English) and my ex-wife(Brazilian) spent the most comfortable night of our 10 day winter trip around north west Argentina, at Estancia Las Tacanas. Our room was immaculately prepared; everything worked: Heating, WC, Hot water and freshly laundered bed and bath linen. The beautiful original furniture and setting made the whole experience authentic. Solano, the owner and our host invited us to aperitifs of just the best Argentinian wines, courtesy of his son and we chatted away with some Patagonian guests as if it was our local Pub. The mix of Spanish English and Portuguese perspective along with locally produced salamis and cheese tapas made for a most convivial evening.

Unfortunatey we only stayed one night and had to be up at 4am to catch the bus to Tucuman for onward connections to Cordoba; Nevertheless Solano's crew had the whole breakfast ready for us at that ungodly hour and we travelled on with satisfied stomachs, hearts and minds.

We will undoubtedly visit again next time we are on the road to Cafayate!

Even though our stay at Las tacanas estancia was a while ago (end of 2011), we keep on thinking about our super memorable stay at LT! Not only were we struck by the absolute beauty of the place - the lovely renovated adobe house, filled with beautiful antiques, a wonderful garden and surroundings of mountain ranges, but we have also had the best company one could wish for. Monica was a very welcoming and warm host, and very hard working. Our stay felt as if we were welcomed by a family, and not as paying guest.

The house consists of the main premises, which has an age-old feel and is decorated with taste, antiques and old jesuit artifacts. There is a garden behind the main building, that is surrounded by the rooms, of which we rented one. The room was very comfortable, good bed, lovely linen with the initials LT embroidered in them, and good bathroom with a bath and beams on the ceiling. we immediately fell in love with it. The room has no TV. which we liked.

Breakfast was also great, there was fresh fruit salad, bread with cheeses and meat, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juices. It was such a relief to have a fresh and proper breakfast in Argentine, we had it with the common mini-croissant and dulce de leche after a few weeks of travel. The room for breakfast was beautiful, old paintings and a collection of antique plates on the wall, just very pretty.

As said, we felt like family there. We were invited up on a horseback ride into the mountains, where we drank mate with the guys, the typical ' Argentinean things' except from the fact that we didn't have to pay more than the locals and we never ever felt like tourists doing them (well, only when our horses had the best of us...). We met some great people, and made some good music until late in the night, at the house's asado. Some of the best memories from our journey in Argentina were made at Las Tacanas. It is amazing how relaxed the atmosphere was and the people were without being pretentious ( or hippies:))

If we could ever have a home in Argentina it would be Las Tacanas. Highly recommended!!

Anbefales!

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room on the south side or choose a large and sunny corner suite

Estancia Las Tacanas in Tafi del Valle fulfilled all my expectations. I like to stay in small hotels in restored old buildings, offering comfort, ambience, great breakfasts, nice gardens and inexpensive prices. I have "champagne taste on a beer budget".
This 300 year old building is the oldest in the Valley, built by the Jesuits as the house for their missionary's farm.
The house has been in Senora Pena's family for about a hundred years as their vacation retreat. Now it is a boutique hotel. We were made to feel like true house guests rather than paying customers.
The house is filled with antiques, the beds comfortable, the linen to die for, the bathrooms squeekly clean anf the breakfast delectable.
The price was really inexpensive (under $US 30).
