We stayed a night at this B&B after originally planning a trip on the famous train, 'La Trochita', however a few days before we discovered that the train had been cancelled due to a strike so we were wondering whether to come or not - very glad we did. The local area has a few sights to see and we had a delightful trip (on a gravel road) on the RP-71 from Cholila through a national park full of lakes to get here.

Whilst we'd booked a standard double we were lucky enough to be put into the family room - which was just so cosy, would be a real delight with kids with a double bed and then a separate area looking onto the garden with two single beds, along with a very nice bathroom and walk-in shower (stocked with high quality tresemme hair/shower products).

The owners were delightful, with great English skills and stories plus tips about the local area - just what you need in a B&B, and would make it a 4-star place (when combined with the very nice room). However that 5th star comes as a result of the breakfast - which was the best we had in Argentina (admittedly not a country that really appreciates this meal!). The breakfast had fresh, home-cooked cake, croissants that tasted French (most in the country were rather stodgy), fresh cherries and a delicious set of scrambled eggs - in addition to the usual fare (cereals, toast, jams, yoghurts). It was a better breakfast than we had in the Marriott/Hilton hotels in Buenos Aires, and then better than any others we had whilst travelling around the country for 3 weeks. Also worth mentioning that the shared living area with books and provision of a laptop to browse the internet were nice touches

The only "negative" to be aware of is that the location needs a car as it is around 2km out of town in a quiet suburb surrounded by greenery and pleasant looking houses (and with ~200m of gravel road).

Dear Guest,

Thanks so much for your wonderful review! We strive to offer the best service we can, while keeping Hosteria Canela's "home from home" atmosphere and friendliness.

While our neighbourhood is the best and most peaceful in Esquel, it's true that covering the 2-km distance from the bustling centre of town may call for a car ride. But there is a good taxi service that will fetch you for about 4 USD, and all the travel agencies will come and pick up our guests whenever they buy one of their many tours.

It was our pleasure having you here; do try to come back sometime in the future. We feel rather bad about what happened with La Trochita, and hope it will be running again soon once their untimely labour dispute gets settled.

Jorge and Veronika made One feel Part of their wonderful Home . Jorge was suggesting a Trip to lago Krügger in the e-Mail before arriving there and did all the booking for us. So we came and could simply enjoy this little lakeparadise. Also he was very helpful in planing the further Trip to Bariloche.
The house has a cosy and wellcoming atmosphere and the garden is very inviting for relaxation.

Hello Suzi_wrong, thanks for your wonderful review!

Nice to know things went well at Lake Kruger and that you liked that lovely spot. It's an ideal place for trekking, fly-fishing, or just relaxing at the small inn there, don't you think so?.

So I gather you reached the Bariloche bus on time at Esquel terminal too. Hope you managed to see the better things of that big tourist town as well.

It's been a pleasure to contribute a bit to make your Patagonian trip a memorable experience. Do come back whenever you can, or send us some family and friends!

Best wishes for 2013

Jorge

We arrived late after a very long drive and were met with a great welcome and cup of coffee. Jorge went out of his way to make us feel at home. The rooms were warm and comfortable and the wi-fi was excellent. Jorge recommended El Mirador Restaurant a few blocks away and we were not disappointed. Unfortunately Veronica had gone away on business and we were not able to savour her famous Milk Tart. The breakfast was a treat and was a great start to our day. We would definitely stay here again should we pass through Esquel..

Dear Doug M
Thanks a lot for your great review on Hosteria Canela! What a pity that Veronica was away for a couple of days at our niece's marriage. It was a pleasure for me having you here, and talk about the South African Boer history in Patagonia.
I hope your long overland trip keeps going well. Have some good Argentine wine in Mendoza!
Best,
Jorge

We stayed for a wonderful 3 nights at Canela in Esquel, it is a beautiful cosy B&B. The owner, Jorge was wonderful and helpful and with information and helped us to revise our trip route through Patagonia and to Ushuia. His wife Veronica is very friendly too and makes great muffins.
They also have great books that you can buy from them all about the Welsh pioneers in Patagonia and the early days of sheep farming in Patagonia.
This is a great base for your stay in Esquel and I would recommend this B&B without hesitation, it is the nicest place that we have stayed on our trip so far, we really felt at home here.
The hosts also speak perfect English and the breakfast is wonderful.

Jorge was a very hospitable and welcoming host. He even collected us from the airport, provided excellent local infomation and arranged local tax hire for us on a couple of occassions. His advice helped make our stay most enjoyable. Our room was very comfortable with plenty of space and comfy chairs to relax in and the breakfasts were excellent.

Dear Kate,

It is our policy (and pleasure) to make sure our guests get the most from a short visit with us here in Esquel. How good to know you enjoyed your stay, and maybe through our evening chats you also got an insight about its cultural and geographical issues. It was my pleasure having these conversations with you and Bryn. And during your outdoor trips, I understand Felix the taxi driver did his best too!
