As far as location goes, prices are a bargain. The hotel is right in the centre of the city, facing the ocean and the beach. The best restaurants are minutes away by foot, as are the pharmacy, most travel agencies where you can book daytrips (which are the main reason for coming to Puerto Madryn in the first place), and the grocery store (useful for buying water and snacks for these daytrips).
That being said, this is no luxury resort. Rooms are VERY bland and in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting. However the bed and bathroom were very clean which, for us, was essential since, like most visitors to this city, we were never in our room except to sleep and shower. Forget sleeping in late though: the hotel is on the main downtown street which is VERY noisy. Constant car and bus noises start around 6am and slow down around midnight. I'm not sure, but I think all or most rooms face this street because of the "sea view" attraction (however this view would be better if the trees lining the street weren't so large...). As for breakfast, it is not included in the price. There is a restaurant in the lobby and breakfast there is not too expensive.
We paid 190 Argentinian pesos for a double room. From what I've seen and heard, most hotels in this price range are pretty much the same, i.e. basic and bland. Don't be surprised though. The city's economy relies very much on the tourist industry. Even the simplest hotels are more expensive than anywhere else in Argentina (except maybe El Calafate). We were there at the start of the high season and hotels fill up very quickly so you can't be too picky in this town...
