El Faro Boutique Hotel & Spa by DON
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 13 November 2009

We booked here based on the reviews and were delighted by our experience at El Faro. As noted by others, the hotel is a 20-minute walk or short cab ride from downtown. Though that's sometimes a pain, the tradeoff is you get a fantastic view and serene setting.

We were upgraded to a suite and it was lovely -- huge sitting area, jacuzzi views over the lake, and a comfy bed. We ate dinner there one night and it was good, but not exceptional. Breakfast was decent but didn't have many options.

The spa was being redone while we visited, and the portions that were almost done looked very nice. Other areas like the sitting room, annex, and lookout tower were great.

Overall, this was one of the top hotels we stayed in during a 5 week trip. Highly recommended.

We stumbled on this hotel and so glad we did! It´s intimate facilities, beautiful views of the lake and friendly staff were so enticing we extended our stay. To our further delight dinner was delicious and again service terrific. We definately hated to leave, but plan to come back.

From the time we called over the phone and made a reservation to the time we left we were pampered. First by Andres who took the reservation, by Ignacio, the manager that is Four Seasons quality and made sure we were pampered, by Carolina the receptionist that gave us a great lake view room and by the people at the restaurant. The hotel could not be better situated in Villa La Angostura which by the way I think the lake views a more spectacular than Bariloche ( I've been to the region 4 times). The rooms and bathrooms are excelent and the facilities including the pool are superb. I only included a couple of pics of the views from the hotel the rest are of thr trip that included the other side of the Andes - Chile.

Hosteria El Faro, Villa La Angostura
www.hosteriaelfaro.com.ar

El Faro is a small boutique hotel located a few kilometers north of Villa La Angostura, on the Seven Lakes Route, directly on Lago Nahuel Huapi. It has a terrific location because it offers incredible lake views from each room and it’s just a short drive to town and off-premises activities.

The views from our room of the lake were gorgeous any time of day! We enjoyed sitting on the balcony, or on the chairs by the window inside our room. Our room was lushly furnished and had a modern bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi – yes, facing the lake! All of the rooms face the lake. Our room, Patagonia 3, had windows that faced both sides of the hotel; this meant that we had the quiet of the lake side, but also the sound of cars that occasionally drove in over a metal grate. If this would bother you, ask for the rooms that only face the lake, preferably on the highest floor.

The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. They had a three ring binder of information about hikes and activities in the area as well as a map showing restaurants. They made reservations for the boat ride to Los Arrayanes National Park for us.

When we made our reservation, they asked if we had any special dietary requirements. I had indicated that my husband is lactose intolerant. Shortly after we arrived, we stopped by the front desk and the chef came over to speak with us. Incredibly, he had made milk-free bread for my husband so he could have that at breakfast! We appreciated the special effort on their part.

The breakfast buffet had fresh fruit, breads, juice, sweets and yogurt, all beautifully presented. You sit in front of the large picture windows facing the lake and leisurely let the day begin!
If you want to eat at their restaurant for dinner, be sure to ask when you check in what nights they are open during your visit. We were disappointed because we did not know they were not open every night, and had we known we would have eaten there on our first night
.
The spa was undergoing construction during our visit (December 2008), so we would not have wanted to sit by the pool because of noise. However, it really wasn’t warm enough to go in the pool and the view from our room’s balcony was so breathtaking that this was not an issue.

The location is probably the best in Villa La Angostura and the views from the deck and swimming pool are breathtaking. The deck/swimming pool and jacuzzi are located directly on the lake.
Rooms are beautiful.
The website (http://www.hosteriaelfaro.com.ar/) does not show how incredible the views from every window are, but they have photos of each of the 15 rooms.
We have been many times to Villa La Angostura, and it is an area that has seen many new hotels opening these last 10 years. We like to visit as many as we can before deciding on where to stay.
This last time we decided on El Faro and was amazing!! We rented the House, it is a separate house that has 2 rooms, living room, kitchen, perfect for a family.

My husband and I spent one night at the beautiful El Faro in Villa La Angostura over the 2007 holiday season. We wish we'd booked at least three or four nights at this lovely property. The village of La Angostora is charming and fairly bustling. The hotel itself sits on the shore of the lake and is very, very beautiful. It has a very small and intimate restaurant and a public space (living room) with spectacular views. The staff at the desk, restaurant and elsewhere are just excellent. There is a pool and dock at the lake's edge. The rooms are very large suites. Ours had a fireplace, a whirlpool tub with a spectacular view of the lake in the bathroom, a separate shower, a very large private balcony, a king bed (very comfortable) and Directtv satellite television. There is complimentary, covered parking just outside of the front door to the hotel. If you don't have your own car, you'll need a cab to go into town. The hotel can arrange activities, taxi's, reservations at local restaurants, etc. for you. I would absolutely love to go stay here again -- this time for a few days instead of just one.

Oh my gosh! What a view from our bedroom [Pampas 1]. 3 floor to ceiling windows present such a panorama that you have to pinch yourself. The bedroom itself was also gorgeous. I think it is a superior room. Huge bed, beautifully decorated, chaise long for relaxing in front of that view [sorry to come back to it but wow!].
Looking onto the pool which was under repair.
The bedroom also had a huge fireplace whcih must be great in the winter. In our case the tempreture was 23 degrees plus & we nearly melted.
We had dinner in La Balsas as El Faro's diningroom & bar are closed on Tuesdays. Reception organised a cab for us. Ambitious cooking that did not come off 100%. Terrific service.

There were a few negatives:
Pool is under repair
No aircon [we really needed it as yesterday was a scorcher!]
The sitting out area had no furniture but this could be because of the pool being under repair.

We loved our stay & would come again
