“Absolutely Charming”

My sister and I are visting this hotel this week (July 10 - 17). Unfortunately the volcano has disrupted travel to Bariloche and on top of that, there is no snow so the ski resort has not opened yet. Lucikly there was snow last night that covered the mountain and hopefully snow today and tomorrow resulting in the chance the ski resort may open on Saturday! Aerolineas Argentina is flying into Esquel and busing people up to Bariloche. It is only about a 3 hr car ride so it really isn't bad. Somewhat similar to the situation in Banff Canada or most of the resorts in Colorado. But with all that said, the hotel owner, manager, staff and dog pacho have made our visit absolutely delightful! Our room has a fireplace, Direct TV, dry sauna, steam sauna and jacuzzi tubs so we have spa day everyday in our room. We had a spa treatments in our room a few days ago and I had the best stone massage. The resort is directly on the lake and you can walk on the shore. The pool is heated and we have thought about swimming followed by dry sauna by the pool, maybe tomorrow. The food at the resort is wonderful, you must try the lamb roll and ribs! We are heading up to the mountain today as you can take a gondola to the top to have lunch. I will definitely consider a return visit.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views but make sure you get a room with Saunas and Jacuzzi. (I think deluxe or...

We stayed here for two nights in November. This was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip to Argentina. The staff was incredibly helpful and so attentive. We missed our first night due to a LAN strike and we showed up nearly 24 hours late....at 9:30am. They brought us straight to the restaurant for breakfast (knowing we had been up pretty early), gave us the best seat in the house then upgraded us to a full suite (ie: the entire house!). After our flight and a terrible travel experience the day prior, the "little things" made such a positive impact to our vacation. We have already sent many friends here and no doubt we will be back!

This property clearly stands out. It has so much to offer. Each room is its own spa. Attention has clearly been given to all the planning and finishings. The service and the food are excellent. The views from the lake front property are picture perfect.and the property has been developed to complement its unique location.

It is indeed a luxury place, with great facilities and great service, and the location is just spectacular. It is interesting how they succeeded in designing the rooms and windows so that you feel like you are the only one in the whole area. Yet you can see the lake, mountains and beach just in front of you.

We had our rental car with us, and we explored the whole area around the city. It was always good to come back to Charming and get into the spa to watch the sunset...

Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were great, and the view is unbeatable. You can go to the restaurant for dinner without being a guest, and it is worth it.

I'm very picky and demanding but having said that it pains me to give this property a 4 star rating but in reality it's not a 5 star. It's missing a few details required to make it a 5 star in my book. The staff are so wonderful and proud of their charming property that it is difficult to give it a 4 star but by exacting fussy standards (mine) it is a great 4 star property.

The good:

1.) The view - WOW - amazing lake view. Stunning. However if you are not familiar with Bariloche be aware that it is not a quaint small village. It's a large sprawling mountain city and Charming is basically in Suburban Bariloche. Neighbors abound. It's not isolated beauty - more like a Suburban mountain experience.

2.) Dining - dinner was great. Overall I wasn't fond of food in Argentina and my partner and I found the dining room at Bariloche to be superb by Argentine standards. Breakfast is complimentary and farily standard offerings. Adequate but not exceptional. Sparkling wine offered with breakfast which was a luxurious complimentary touch.

3.) The staff - SUPERB - very high quality staff. Excellent service. Friendly. Genuinely willing and wanting to help you enjoy the stay.

4.) Dry sauna and jacuzzi bath in the room and "scotch" shower with multiple shower heads.. Very nice touch!

The good but not great:

1.) If you are expecting a "rustic mountain lodge" or "mountain modern decor" a la Vail, Jackson Hole or Aspen you're not going to find it at Charming. I found the furnishings and decor to be a combination of old fashioned cabin and ordinary suburban home. I found the leather sofas a bit out of character with the woody / country decor. The flat screen tv's were small. This IS NOT a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton mountain experience. Far from it. Set your expectations lower and you'll enjoy the decor.

2.) Internet was slow. Very slow. I understand this is an issue everywhere in Bariloche though.

3.) For the prices charged I would expect a welcome gift and turn down service. These are the small extras that make a true 5 star experience. They are lacking at Charming.

Bariloche and its environs are overwhelmed with accommodations on the lake or near to it. I would highly recommend Charming but do not expect 5 star LUXURY. Expect a terrific lodge with great service and a beautiful view in a suburban lakefront setting.

Charming certainly lives up to its name. The views are--well, insert adjectives here, and stand by for hyperbole. Chances are your breakfast buffet (excellent by the way) will be adorned by a rainbow. The staff speaks your language, and are always ready to offer advice. (We hired a staff member as a guide on his day off. He brought his wife and infant son. It was a unique way to see Bariloche through the eyes of a local resident.) I have read other reviews of this hotel, and while price and value are often conflicting measurements, I note that the current rates --for April--start at $180 per night. Presumably not the best room with the best view, but I cannot imagine that there are bad views. Our visit was a package purchased on Luxury Link. Yes, it was a significant bargain, in that it included one lunch and two in-room massages. The lunch--and all the breakfasts--were excellent. The in-room massages, performed by two local professionals, were great. My wife agrees, and she is a hard marker in all service areas.I do think that the explanations of how to operate the sauna and the light-themed shower were inadequate. What is needed is a little booklet or a card to detail the procedure step-by-step.. Even without such material, we determined how sauna and shower worked. That the local bus stops virtually at the hotel's door is a great convenience. But any visitor should rent a car, and here again the hotel staff can handle such arrangements, and even obtain a discount.! Any small hotel will have a distinct personality. Charming's is delightful
