We had an excellent lunch here off season when the restaurant was mostly empty. No reservation was needed and they were open late for lunch. We had a delicious bowl of vegetable soup and a tasty venison empanadas to start. For the main course my wife had a delicious sautéed trout with olive oil and capers, my daughter had wonderful house-made gnocchi with creamy tomato sauce, and I had a half portion of tasty lamb with wonderful mashed potatoes. For dessert the flan custard was delicious. The glass of local Malbec wine was excellent and inexpensive. The bill for the 3 of us was only 480 pesos or $60 US. The ambiance was informal and relaxed and the service was helpful. Only annoyance was "cover charge" per person.
Not on the main tourist street but just a few doors down from Hertz car rental. Overall an excellent meal and a good value.
Jauja also has a wonderful ice cream parlor on Ave de Los Pioneeros near the Teleferico up Cerro Otto. The helados (ice cream) was fantastic!
