“Decent location, but that's all”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2008

Rooms are Spartan, beds are uncomfortable, front desk personnel are illusive at best, and rooms are small. Worst hotel we stayed in during our trip to Patagonia.

The hotel is old and looks older, although clean. Dark hallways and rooms. The elevator is small and loooks a real antique. Staff is far from helpful (as usual in Bariloche). Bathroom also needs a major renovation. Beds are very narrow. Location is good, very close from good restaurants, shops and bus stops. Breakfast is simple, but ok.

My wife and I stayed in the Carlos V hotel for two nights whilst in Bariloche. The hotel is nothing extraordinary but the rooms are clean and comfortable with good bathrooms. Additionally the hotel is superbly positioned for taking advantage of the numerous great restaurants which occupy the town centre and we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Our room cost us (ARG)$150 a night (about GBP 25) and I think we could have got a discount for payment in cash.

On our first night in Bariloche we took the advice of the Lonely Planet and stayed at the Hosteria La Pastorella and we found the Carlos to be a much better option and only a fraction more expensive.

If you want something markedly better than a hostel but you are on a budget then the Carlos V Hotel is a good option for you.

My friend and I spent 3 night at the Carlos V. The room was definitely more spacious than our hotel in Buenos Aires. The room was clean and we had a hair dryer. The hotel also provided free Internet. The elevator was old and you had to close the accordion door manually but that wasn't a big deal. The staff was helpful and the hotel was 2 blocks away from the civic center.

This is my first visit to Argentina. I am a budget but not hostel traveller.
Carlos V is clean, efficient with a pleasant atmosphere.
Not much English spoken here but in spite of the fact that I speak no Spanish and my Aussie accent has been hard for the English speaking natives to handle, the staff here do their best to help.
I have had a lovely stay in Bariloche with them.
