“Great Vista, Lack of Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2009

The property is great, the location is great, the view is spectacular. Ricardo Spoterno who i guess is the owner is in Buenos Aires, he has a caretaker a young man by the name of Alejandro. Alejandro is nice but is not a concierge, he comes in the morning and late afternoon (he is sporatically there). Like the other review said - RENT A CAR, you are not in easy walking distance to restaurants and cabs are super expensive (unless you are a hitchhiker which there is an abundance of). We had a great size unit on the ground floor that was for 4 people (which means that there are 2 couches and a bed room, not really for 4 people. The spa is not a spa but is very nice; it includes a heated pool and a sauna. It was great to have a fireplace in the unit but i had to use gasoline on the wood to light it. There is also a wonderful dog onsite, Morena who is fun to play with.

We stayed at Patagonia Vista for4 nights, if i had to do it over again i would rent a car and drive the 7 lakes and stay at a different hosteria every 2 days. There are tons of places to stay and i think there is vacancy everywhere. We would recommend this place though because the views are picturesque and the unit was new and clean.

Thank you very much! Me and my girlfriend we stayed 3 days at Patagonia Vista in December 2008. It was the perfect place to relax and to discover the surroundings of San Carlos de Bariloche. The hotel can easily be found as it is located on the main road between San Carlos de Bariloche and the Llao Llao (about 5km from the Llao Llao = great place for Lunch but if you are looking for an intimate quite place, a real gem, go and stay at Patagonia Vista). The rooms are beautifuly furnished and the terrace of each room offers a fantastic view of the Lake. You have this view also from the pool, which is heated. The staff is very friendly and they serve breakfast every morning in your room whenever you prefer (normally it is between 08.00 and 11.00 (I think) o'clock but on the last day we had to leave early, thus they served it at 07.00 hours = they are flexible).
The location is also great as it is close to many attractions (Cerro Campanario, Colonia Suiza, Llao Llao, etc.).
Conclusion: If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax and to recharge your battery and want to use the hotel as a homebase to discover San Carlos de Bariloche an its surroundings: Go to Patagonia Vista.

Our trip to Patagonia Vista Lodge & Spa was fantastic! It has the most stunning setting right on Lago Nahuel Huapi with views of snow capped mountains. It's peaceful and roughly 22km (or a 25 minute drive) from San Carlos de Bariloche center and a further 15 minutes or so you will be at the airport. The main road Av. Bustillo is what takes you out to the lodge, its in the same direction as Llao Llao which is only another 5km or so further on.

So renting a car is must! We did not plan for this in advance (although wish we had) and the lodge provided us a car service for $45USD from the airport to the lodge. When we were informed that the best way to get around is to have a car (the hotel does not have any transportation of any sort) he was able to arrange for a car rental place to drop off a car for us for 118ARS (or ~ $35USD at current exchange rates) per day. Thus if they knew that we would need a car, they should have suggested that we rent one initially before providing us with the $45 car service. There is a bus that takes you up and down Av Bustillo for only 4ARS but I would recommend the car.

There is no restaurant at the lodge although they do provide a delicious english breakfast in the morning - they also handed us a menu for delivery but I wouldn't do that, there are tons of great restaurants to try - we went to include Il Gabbiano (a little further out towards Llao Llao and only 2 or 3 km from the lodge) and El Boliche de Alberto (there are like 5 of them and we went to the steakhouse one in town center around the corner from the main one written up in the lonely planet guide). And if you want to do activities during the day, having the car is again helpful and more efficient for your time. We personally went to Canopy Patagonia for ziplining, Tom Wesley's horseback riding, a hike up Cerro Campanario, the gondola up Cerro Otto, an attempt at paragliding, a drive out to the Llao Llao area and around the Circuito Chico, a drive to the port for a boat trip to Puerto Blest and Cataratas and a drive along La Ruta de los Siete Lagos.

I had emailed the hotel prior to arrival to see if they could arrange some of these activities for us while we were there... unfortunately, the english of the hotel manager is as good as our spanish and while we covered the basics it was pretty difficult to make use of him. Even still, the concierge aspect of the hotel is virtually non-existent, even if you do speak spanish. Sometimes the manager wasn't even there! And we ended up at another hotel down the road to use their concierge to help us make decisions and phone calls for us...

It is a small lodge of just 5 apartments. Ours was a duplex since there were 3 of us which could have slept 4. The inside was decorated lovely and had a fireplace for our use. The spa is really not a spa so that's a bit misleading...there is a heated indoor/outdoor pool as seen by the pics and a sauna, but thats the extent of it. I believe they could bring in a masseuse but id sooner go elsewhere...but either way it is still quite nice.

Everyone that works there is nothing but nice and helpful when they are around. The previous reviews I would also agree with. ATMs are few and far between, make sure you have enough cash...if not there is a Todo supermarket (in between city center and the lodge) that has an ATM on the side of the building. We frequented there several times :)

So in sum, its a gorgeous place to stay, but make sure you know what you want to do when you get there and dont rely on the lodge to help you. Set up activities in advance if possible by emailing them before your arrival. Rent a car at the airport and pick up some snacks in case you get hungry at while at the lodge.

We stayed there for a week in late June with our 6 month old baby and another couple with their 5 year old kid. We took two bungalows with intercomunication door.

We had a great time during our stay. The lake view is simply wonderful. There is nothing like waking up with that beatiful sunrise view across the lake and the snow capped mountains in the background.

The rooms and furniture were confortable, cozy, and new. The fire place was also nice. I felt at home.

The hot water swimming pool and sauna were perfect. There is nothing like drinking wine and beer in the pool while it is freezing outside.

The only minus were the distance from downtown (21 km) and the lack of hotel type services: restaurant and room service. The services at Patagonia Vista are very basic and limited to cleaning ahd bringing breafast to the bungalow.

If you don't mind staying away from downtown, the lack of hotel ammenities, and want to feel at home, this is the place for you in Bariloche, I specially recommend it for family and or group of friends type of vacation.

As there was limited availability at the Aldebaran we chose to spend our last 2 nights in Bariloche at the Patagonia Vista. As there were so few reviews of this hotel, I was a bit apprehensive about it and got a wonderful surprise when we arrived. The hotel conists of individual appartments. We had one for 2 people which consisted of a large bedroom with a kitchen separated by a breakfast bar and a bathroom with bath and overhead shower. The room was very clean, very modern with beautiful furniture, good quality bedding and nice robes. Everything was new and comfortable. Our room had a TV and DVD player and the kitchen was fully equipped.

When we arrived I asked for some milk so that we could make some tea and was given the breakfast tray, loaded with wonderful warm flaky croissants and bread, jam, dulce de leche, milk, tea, coffee and chocolate. This was delivered to our room every morning at a time specified by us in advance.

Every room has a terrace with sun-loungers with a fantastic view of the lake. There was a pool and spa which were spotless.

The staff didn't speak much English but they were all absolutely wonderful, so accommodating and friendly. We were sorry that we couldn't have stayed for a week as it was a home from home.

The location was great, on the road to Llao Llao, serviced by the number 20 bus from Barlioche town.

I've added photos as I feel this hotel isn't marketed enough and is a secret gem in Bariloche.

I spent a few days at Bariloche in December 2006(for New Year) together with my husband. We stayed 7 days at Patagonia Vista Lodge & Spa, and the people there made us feel very confortable, they recommended us a lot of places to go and to eat, they managed to get good prices to rent a car, and in several excursions we made.

The view from the room(140 mtrs2) on the upper floor was marvellous...we could see the Nahuel Huapi Lake and the mountains from our window...and every morning, they brought us a delicious and huge homemade breakfast, that we enjoyed in our lakehouse.

The hotel is on the banks of Nahuel Huapi Lake(it has a private beach), at 20km from the Sky Resort(Cerro Catedral) and 4km from Puerto Pañuelo(departure and arrival of of lake crossing boats)

We really had a pleasant stayed there...and of course we highly recommend everyone to go ...
