Los Juncos - Lake House
Reviewed 18 January 2012

The owner is very nice and helpful and the hous is very charming. Adding to this an amazing chef who is preparing a different dinner every night, Los Juncos is a great choice. Their number 1 ranking is fully deserved!!!

Getting out of the town of Bariloche was the best decision we made on our holiday to the lakes district in Argentina. Los Juncos was the perfect location to relax and get close to the natural wonders surrounding it. Flavia and her team made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The inclusive breakfast of fresh squeezed orange juice, just baked on the premises media lunas and orange cake were perfect! I would highly recommend this lodge for any couple wanting a break from the norms of travel in Argentina!

Room Tip: Choose room called Aire - facing the lake, with perfect views every day!

From Iguazu Falls to Mendoza and now Bariloche. Town doesn't look much to write about as we go past it but we soon arrive at Los Juncos, our resting spot for three days. As soon as you enter the place, you feel that this is special and Flavia's friendly greeting makes you immediately feel at home. Next three days are a mixture of hiking, cycling and canoeing in the most beautiful surroundings, returning tired but totally relaxed to tea and cake baked by Flavia. Who needs to leave the comforts of LJ when you have the variety and quality of cooking produced by Gaby? In my humble opinion, perfect location for the outdoor pursuits I enjoy and beautiful garden to lounge in the sun with a book. Top quality and great value for money. Thank you Flavia and Gaby and your staff.

This is a very comfortable and friendly small hotel with excellent food and a lovely lake view. The sitting room is a really cosy place to sit with a drink before or after dinner, cooked in the kitchen by Gaby, the owner's brother. Flavia, the owner, is friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view of the lake.

We stayed at Los Juncos for 7 nights. We had actually booked 4 nights, but we enjoyed it so much that we decided to stay longer.

Location was great for us, 20 km outside of Bariloche, so bit more quiet and good starting point for outdoor activities. Close enough to the city, good bus connection.

We loved the place because every night after some outdoor activity it felt like comming home. Flavia the owner would welcome us and poor us a glass of wine. Her brother Gaby takes care of cooking, we had dinner at Los Juncos three times.

Bedrooms are great.

Thanks Flavia and Gaby, we will definately visit again if we visit Bariloche again.

Stayed here for 3 nights in Oct 2011 and I loved it! Our twin room was huge and the bathroom was large and had some lovely touches.

The main lounge/bar/dinning room is very relaxed - we sat on the sofas reading and drinking beers and feeling completely at home - Flavia (the owner) brought us nibbles to go with our beer. She did not mind that we bought our lager in the local shop as they only stock pale ale.

Gaby, co-owner and chef was lovely. There was a choice of food every night and I found everything very well cooked - we even swapped soup recipies. When the chef asks you how spicy you would like your thai lamb you know you are being looked after.

Breakfast was lovely - freshly home made whole wheat criossants with dulce de luche! Be prepared to put on a few pounds.

The house is well placed - the bus stop is right outside, you can walk to the bike hire place, and it half way between the town and the harbour.

If you want a hotel with air con, flat screen TVs and impersonal service this place is not for you. If you want to relax like you are at home, personal service where the host lets you into the office to use their pc as you wish, then this place is for you! Flavia gave us bus passes (they do not accept cash on the buses) and refused to accept payment for them. She was the perfect host.

We didnt ask the price of the food/beer/coffee but we were very pleasantly surprised when we got the bill on leaving. It is not expensive.

In response to another post - Yes, it is 20km out of the town, but to be honest the town is run down and not very appealing.

A wonderful, very comfortable and relaxing hotel, as soon as you arrive you are treated like family. Flavia and Gabi are so welcoming and will do anything to guide and help. Being able to chill out in the later afternoons and evening in the lounge area was a lovely pleasure. There is also no need to find restaurants in the local area, Gabi's cooking is superb. If you want a home away from home, Los Juncos Lake House is the place to go.

Room Tip: Choose the large room at the front of the house, it is so tastefully decorated and gives a lovely vi...
