“Fun, unique charming B&B or Hosteria”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

I liked the funkiness of Los Juncos -- and the hostess - Augustina is wonderful. Our room was upstairs (be prepared if you have a lot of luggage or walking issues) but it was a warm and wonderful place to relax and to stay...we were there for 3 nights. I loved the location about 20K outside of the center city but situated perfectly to other areas along the AV Bustillo. I would recommend a car, however to get there and to explore the peninsula. Taking the bus into town was simple based on the advice of Augustina and the bus card ...which we just added pesos to. The interior reminded me of b&B's in France or Italy, it had unique charm. The colors and decor worked well together and the hosts were gracious, helpful and welcoming. Great to curl up and read a book in the main living area and have a glass of wine and mingle with the other guests. Our room was quite spacious for two people.

We stayed for two nights and the welcome was very warm and personal. They do a very good job on that. We had the Master suite, as the other rooms were occupied. The bed is great, breakfast nice and the location superb! A very homely feeling. The only negative side was the cracking of the floor in the room. We could not walk without making a lot of noise, and the view on the lake would have been great but for the huge tree blocking 80% of it.

Don't allow yourself to be put off by an initial impression that the posada has seen better days. It is a little distressed perhaps but is full of character and charm. We had our doubts about the place to begin with but thoroughly enjoyed our two stays there.

The rooms are small and initially we were unimpressed with Aqua but it grew on us - our second room Fuego was even smaller (and perhaps best avoided).

Other negatives? The posada is situated on a sometimes busy road, no hairdryer is provided nor is there a room safe.

But despite the limitations of the rooms we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Los Juncos and were genuinely sad to move on at the end.

The positives included a very comfortable bed, the lake view from the dining room/lounge, the pleasant and sunny garden, the breakfast, the pre-payment card to use the buses and the exceptionally relaxing atmosphere.

And the people.

Los Juncos is wonderfully managed by Agustina who was more like a friend than a host, and dinner was a delight cooked by the enthusiastic Gaby. There is even Octavio the resident night porter come writer who organised an early breakfast. Bliss.

We stayed in Los Juncos for 3 nights and totally enjoyed our stay, when we arrived Agustina offered us the "sweet" which had extremely modern fittings, creaky floorboards and some other charming fittings. Gaby was an excellent host and superb cook, we ate there all three nights and the food was exquisite, and as we had to leave early on the last morning Gaby ensured we had a take away breakfast, which was very fresh and filling. The views across the Nauel Huapi Lake from the dining room and our bedroom were fantastic. Finally this was one of the best places we stayed while in Argentina.

This restored old country house by the shores of Nauel Huapi Lake is one of the best places we stayed in Argentina. Agustina is the heart of the place, teaching guests everything from cooking the best spinach gnocchi I've ever had, to guiding us through a Mate' ritual, to tango! The staff are unfailingly welcoming, the service and friendliness absolutely wonderful. And the FOOD! Gaby AND Agustina are wonderful chefs. The place is decorated with amazing and charming detail, a cross between a castle and home-sweet-country-home. The location is great for exploring the countryside, but not too far out of busy (and noisy) Bariloche. My ONLY concern is that the old floors upstairs are very squeeky, and every step can be heard in other rooms. I wouldn't recommend it for folks who want to make a lot of noise at night (honeymooners?) because sounds CAN be heard upstairs, although when we were there everyone was pretty low-key. That said, I would return here in a heartbeat, squeeky floors and all, because Los Juncos shares all that is best about Argentina - beauty, wonderful hospitality, great food, and a generous open-hearted welcome.

We were two couples (independent travelers in their 30s) who stayed for 5 nights and didn't want to leave!

This is one of those hotels where you realize there are some great minds behind every the details. The open bar has an "honesty book", a simple way to say "please feel at home" and a beautiful statement on an exchange of trust between guests and owners of the hotel. The living room is always playing soulful world music where guests relax, meet and share stories. We arrived after midnight from a delayed flight and despite the lateness Octavio greeted us with a smile and the most delicious home-made empanadas I've ever had (and I've been living in Argentina for almost four years now!). Then there was fresh water and truffle on the night table, a true treat after the airport ordeal. Immediately we knew we were in the hands of people who cared about their guests as if they were friends.

I don't want to give away any further surprises! Agustina was the sweetest smiley host, extremely attentive and accommodating. She helped us with booking transfers and excursions, recommended restaurants and even made reservations on our behalf.

Location is idyllic for those looking for peace and quiet in front of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. 20km away from the bustle of the city-center and easily accessible to activities such as biking, horseback, kayak, sailing, hiking etc. It is very near the Llao Llao National Park which is surrounded by lakes and at the foothills of the Andes. There is a convenient bus that stops right in front of the b&b, but in order to really juice out your experience I would highly recommend renting a car to explore the area (no matter where you're staying at in Bariloche in fact). Its also close to delicious restaurants like La Masia, Aashi and Il Gabbiano, although on most nights we chose to enjoy the luxury of having our own in-house gourmet Chef Gaby :)

Our room "Aire" was absolutely perfect, spacious with a king size bed, lake view and tasteful rustic vibe - with a mixture of modern decoration, black and white photography and restored antiques.

Muchas Gracias Los Juncos and its wonderful people!!

We were booked for 3 nights at Los Juncos and from the very start, Agustina made us feel extremely welcome and helped us enjoy a great stay in Bariloche through her tips and suggestions. Los Juncos is a unique and extremely comfortable place to stay and Ellie and Gaby delivered excellent breakfast and a memorable dinner for two couples on our last night. Wonderful and thanks!
