“Quiet spot just off the beaten path”
Reviewed 14 February 2013 via mobile

We stayed here 2 nights bookending a trip to Perito Moreno and El Chalten. Overall I was pleased - the rooms were nice, all facing a courtyard. We had only a few blocks to the bus station, which also happened to be the gateway to the downtown area, so we were off of the sometimes boisterous main street of El Calafate.

The woman who runs the desk was quite helpful and let us use the refrigerator for our lunch food (as everyone will find out, it's a steady diet of jamon y queso in Argentina).

My notes, not really complaints:

a) Breakfast was sweet bread, crackers, cookies, and toast - no fruit or protein. I would say, however, that this turned out to be a typical breakfast in Patagonia.

b) The heater in the bathroom was too close to my leg and it hurt when I bumped it (boo-hoo, right)?

c) In one our rooms (1st floor) the water pressure was dependent on use by the neighbors so we had to schedule showers. Not a problem on the 2nd floor.

I would stay here again without reservation.

My experience of Hosteria Patagonia was as part of an Intrepid Adventure Tour, therefore I can't comment on value for money, as it was part of the tour package.

We found our small double room in good condition - clean sheets, somewhat comfy beds, a small TV, and a clean (a little bit old) bathroom. All in all, it was one of those rooms in an average Argentinian hotel where you open the door and you relax, because it's nice enough not to worry about it.
The way the hotel is structured is quite cute, with a small green area in the middle forming an atrium, while the rooms are around this green space. There is a little bit of an issue with noise if you happen to get one of the rooms below another room (only 4 rooms have people above you, the rest are either on the top level, or in a part of the complex that only has one floor). You can hear every step. We just plugged in our ear plugs and were lucky enough to have somewhat quiet neighbours.
Breakfast was basic but nice, and staff were friendly, although do not expect them to understand English (but pointing and a basic phrase book will get you there).
The location of the hotel is very good - it's still in easy walking distance to the main street of El Calafate (literally 5 minutes walk), but far enough away to be protected from the traffic noise. AND the main bus terminal is just around the corner.

Overall, do not expect any luxury, but the place is nice enough to look forward to returning to after a long day of hiking.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms with people above you. Either move into top floor, or the side that only has one...

We stayed 2-3 nights in this place, during our stay in Patagonia.

It was simple, but clean and OK. Good sized rooms.

The location is OK too, not central, but only a 10 min walk to the "city centre".

There was a breakfast buffé, which was OK but very simple. It prepared you for the day, but didn't really excite us.

We liked the garden, nice with some green feeling.

For what we paid for it, it's absolutely worth a recommendation.

Comfy beds and hot showers and so close to the bus terminal- just around the corner. There is a small supermarket on the corner next door.
We stayed here 4 nights in between going to El Chalten and Puerto Natales- It was great to come back here off the bus and cross the street to the small hotel.
It was reasonably priced for summer- we had a double room and it was great! We paid $210 pesos which is about $50 dollars.
Booking a couple of days in advanced is needed- you can email them or call to make a booking.
Rooms are so warm and it is quiet.
Breakfast was the usual, toast with jam and tea or coffee.. not great, but you can go buy some fruit or what you like from the supermarket if desired.
We would recommend this place to anyone wanting a simple, cosey and clean place to sleep while adventuring El Calafate and the surrounding places.

Room Tip: We stayed in a couple of rooms and they were all the same and very good! Room 1 was great, so was Ro...

We stayed here for two nights following a long trip down the carretera austral and across into Argentina. The rooms are spacious and clean. The shower ran hot and wifi was good. The double ensuite was was relatively very good value. There was a tv with bad reception. Breakfast is typical of argentina with a few pieces of bread, jam and coffee. The sweet bread was a nice touch. Service is friendly and the location is very close to the bus station.
