Hosteria Sir Thomas
Reviewed 20 February 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights in February and it was not the most comfortable hostels we've ever been to.
The location is very good, as you're a couple of streets away from the main street in town. The staff were friendly and helpful - they will make an effort even if you don't speak much Spansih. Breakfast is quite basic, but better than nothing. Wi-Fi is also available for free.

Unfortunately these are the only good things I can say about the place. While effort was put into cleaning the main room (ie. we had fresh sheets), the bathrooms were neglected.
My first visit to the bathroom was met with hair all over the bathroom cabinet, and finding a dirty smelly toilet which could have at least been flushed before they gave the room to us.

The walls in the room are paper thin, so you will hear anyone that walks past, as well as your neighbours. There is no ventilation in the rooms at all, so it gets very hot and stuffy, even with the cold weather outside. There is a window, however opening it will invite visits from flies and mosquitoes.

Room Tip: Rooms further away from the stairs would be quieter as less people would walk past.

The good points about this hostel are the location (just a 5 minute walk into town) and the staff who are very friendly & will help you arrange trips. Most of the staff speak little to no English (our problem for having little to no Spanish!), but we were able to speak on the phone with one of the off-duty receptionists (Gabriela) who explained all the trips and helped us to book one through the hotel. The reason for the low score is really the rooms; ours was uncomfortably small and just clean enough. Breakfast was fine, but nothing too exciting. We wouldn't rush back to this hotel, although we would love to return to see the Perito Moreno glacier again which is truly spectacular.

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights and it was a great experience. The staff was extremely helpful in giving us tips on tours and where to visit with our rental car. It is walking distance to lots of restaurants. The rooms are clean and there is a little lounge area where you can chat and lounge. Although I didn't use it, they had a little shelf with books to share which I thought was a nice idea. Good experience all around!

We had an excellent experience during our stay at the hosteria. Rooms are very clean, it's well located and breakfast is great. Gabriela is very nice and diligent. She helped us book some excursions and gave us some useful tips to make the most of our travel.
It's very well located, so you are close to the main attractions.
Overall, we had a wondeful stay for the money we paid.

This is a very basic place, thin walls, cheap materials, the breakfast is horrible, but the beds are comfortable, it's passably clean and it has hot water, so if you are on a budget and not to picky, consider Sir Thomas.
