“Haberton + Gable Island + Penguins”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

We booked a tour of the Estancia Haberton through Canal Fun. This tour of the Estancia included a walk across Gable Island (owned by the estate) and a visit to the penguin rookery that has been established on another island owned by the estate. This was the highlight of our trip to Ushuaia by far and our guide Norbie was a real pleasure. The guides at Canal Fun prepared lunch (grilled fish, vegetables, wine) on Gable Island at the old sheep shearing shelter. We had a great view while enjoying a delicious meal. Definitely see the ranch as part of a tour to visit the most interesting areas.

“Laid back visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2014

The Bridges story (he started the estancia) was what made my husband want to visit Patagonia so we were keen to get to Estancia Harberton
We got a taxi in Ushaia to take us tho one could have done a tour or taken a bus I believe
We didn't go to see the penguins as we had seen lots in Antarctica, but different types
It was a laid back relaxing day and interesting
Good simple lunch

“Penguin Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2013

The penguin island/rookery is a great place to visit in the Estancia Haberton. Before booking a tour check whether the tour company actually let you walk on the island and get up close to the penguins. I did the tour today with PiraTours and as far as I am aware they are the only company which get you onto the isalnd. The other companies drive right up to the shore but you don't get off. PiraTour was more expenisive but it was worth it.

We visited in 'spring/summer' and it was still very cold especially with the strength of the wind. Wrap up warm!!

Unforgettable tour, highly recommended.

“Haberton Ranch and Penguin Rookery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2013

This was a great tour to get very up close to penguins, literally we could reach out and touch a couple of them...but didn't of course. There was a huge colony of both Gentoo and Magellenic penguins as well as an unusual 2-3 king penguins that had recently decided to stop on this island. We were surprised at the length of the bus ride - about 3 hours roundtrip - but we caught a nap there and back, and the drive was very pretty as well. We had an hour with the penguins (amazing to get that close to them, and they had just had chicks 5-20 days prior), and there was a surprisingly great museum (skeletons of sea animals hanging from the ceiling and pictures painted behind the animal - really a great display). The guides with Pira Tour were friendly and informative (Leo and Veronica), and overall a really great 6.5 hour tour from Ushuaia.

“Very cool tour”

This is a great place worth visiting. The penguines are really cool and the little museum run by students is extremely interesting. Our guide was Laura and she was superb - very knowledgable and accomodating.
