This hotel is my Worse mistake on my journey, The hotel manager just speaks Portuguese in a country and Employees speak Spanish? And Supposedly, a hotel of four stars have a bellboy service, not in this case. A lot thinghs to never back or recommending this place! A bad experience after planning for a long time a vacation, relying on the comments of the other guests.

Thank you very much for choosing us for your stay in Ushuaia.
We appreciate all you comments and suggestions to improve, I will send a copy of this to our Director. There are always opportunities to be better and we value your input, so I would like to ask you if the bellboy situation was the only problem you had in the Hotel?

This property was the launch point for our trip to Antarctica. We wanted a comfortable hotel near the harbor, restaurants and shopping. We hit the trifecta… the hotel's location allowed easy pedestrian movement. We stayed on the top floor in a suite. The room was quaintly adorned and very spacious. We really enjoyed the balcony overlooking the harbor, town center and mountainous horizon.

We stayed at the Cilene del Faro for one night in February 2014, as part of an Overseas Adventure tour.

The Cilene faces Yaganes street at the northeast end of Ushuaia’s business district, between the end of Av. San Martin (the main street for shopping and restaurants) and Av. Maipú (the street that parallels the waterfront). Our room – which was on the side facing San Martin (about 70 feet away), well back from Yaganes – was quiet, which is our key evaluation criterion for a hotel. Other reviewers of the Cilene have complained about traffic noise, music from San Martin into the wee hours, and barking dogs; we heard none of that. Perhaps it was because we were there mid-week, but that end of town seemed quiet.

Our room had a relatively large ‘living area’ (sofa, coffee table, TV, chairs) including a kitchenette and bar table/chairs, separate from the ‘bedroom’. This gave the room a spacious, suite-like appearance, but this was somewhat illusory. The ‘bedroom’ was so small that the only place for our suitcases was in the ‘living room’. Thus, in practice for our purposes, the “suite” was really not much different from a one-room hotel room, but with the inconvenience of a wall between your sleeping area and your suitcases. During our one-night stay, we never had occasion to use the kitchenette. The rooms in this hotel are designed for guests who are going to be staying longer than we did, and who will spend more time in their room.

There was an in-room safe, a feature that we encountered in every Argentine and Chilean hotel in which we stayed. The WiFi worked OK.

The location is excellent. The hotel is almost directly across Yaganes from the Presidio (the old prison), and is just around the corner from the town’s other museums, from Avenida San Martin shopping and dining district, and from the Beagle Channel waterfront. Nothing is too far away.

The breakfast was fine. It included the standard South American fare featuring runny scrambled eggs and mini-weenies (in lieu of pork sausage), accompanied by a selection of juices, yogurt, fruit, cereal, breakfast rolls, and bread.

Our one day in Ushuaia was so busy that we did not have an opportunity to try some of the hotel’s other amenities, including the pool and the panoramic bar on top of the building.

Based upon our one-night experience, we would not hesitate to stay at the Cilene del Faro if we were to visit Ushuaia again.

Stayed three nights mid March 2014 with a family of 5 for our first time in Ushuaia. I must admit my first impression was not great as we arrived with our rental car to find the parking garage was closed for maintenance (and no mention of this when I booked the hotel). On-street parking is possible but not likely to get a spot close to the hotel on a week day (surrounding streets are very busy). Once we stepped inside, however, the entire experience was fantastic. We booked a family suite but were given a free upgrade to the penthouse suite (one of only two on the top floor). The place had a balcony with amazing views of both the Beagle Channel as well as the mountains behind the city and was perfect for us. Suite was very well appointed with full kitchen and luxury furniture, etc. Staff were extremely helpful with everything we needed (including a crib for our 19 month-old). Breakfast was even better than we had expected. All the hotel staff were keen to help and met all our expectations. The hotel is also centrally located to allow walking to all the major activities in town (boat tours, eating out, museums and shopping on San Martin). Highly recommend this hotel, especially for a first-time trip to the city.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the highest floor possible - street noise is noticeable, especially on weekend.

I stayed one night after my cruise. Had cancelled my room at Foike Hosteria from a bad experience. This was much more expensive, but I was happy with my decision. Arrived early, friendly front desk said I couldn't check in till 2:00. Used internet in lobby until about 12:30, then they had a room. Four hours for one room? The internet was excellent. The room was great, spectacular view of the harbor. Some road noise, but a superb view. Right in town, another plus. Had to dine and dash for a flight, breakfast looked good, eggs were perfect. Only problem I had was the taxi I requested the night before was 15 minutes late. Not good when heading for a flight.

Room Tip: Get a waterfront view
