Don't get me wrong. It was nice to see the lighthouse and understand how far we were from the American continent (towards Antarctica) but it's just a small light on top of a small rock. You don't even step out of the boat. I highly recommend visiting as part of a bigger navigation tour, where you can see also other rocks with birds and sea lions.

A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and used as an aid to navigation for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.
And that's exactly what you saw.

Out at the end of the Beagle Channel is a red lighthouse on a rock. The Faro. It is a great photo and the trip out by tour boat stops at other interesting places.

The lighthouse can only be seen by boat but there are plenty of cruises going out of town and the trip takes a few hours. The scenery was breath taking but you cannot go on the island.

Always confused to the real "Faro del Fin del Mundo" of Julio Verne's romance wich is located on the "Isla de los Estados" miles away from Ushuaia abroad the argentinean territory on south of Atlantic ocean, this one (more turistic) is located just half a hour by boat from Ushuaia harbor in the Beagle Canal, which do not decreases its importance as a sightseeing to be visited once you are in Ushuaia. Recommended.
