“At the edge of the world”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

It was a really quaint and great find on the internet. Owned by an old couple who really enjoy the traffic from across the world. They even have a register where people have written in their own languages and then translated into English. The place lives up to its name as the Old Gentleman teaches you Tango each evening, where you also exchange dancing notes with people from other countries. The breakfast is good and the location superb . . . as you have a quick walk down to the harbor where ships from antarctica await! Do ask them for some local guiding tips and you will be rewarded . . . don't ever ask them to help with luggage though! they get offended :P

Room Tip: Ask for the room upstairs that faces the garden and the sea beyond . . .

Nothing really to complain about, just seemed very average for the price. Pros: excellent internet, helpful bilingual owner, good breakfast, hot water, space heater in the room. Cons: some rooms have private but separate bathrooms across the hall, rooms (at least ours) were small and basic, location well out of centre up a long hill.

A unique bonus was the tango show Raul put on for us, playing tango music on his accordion for about 45 minutes one night. He is really good.

Room Tip: You could ask for a room with a bathroom inside if you prefer.

Stayed here one night in January 2014, for tourism purposes. The rooms are basic; mine had a great view over the mountain range to the North of Ushuaia. The living room has a great view over the Beagle channel, which you can enjoy during your breakfast, which is basic but gets the job done. Internet is included in the room rate. I paid my room in euros, but this was pre-arranged, so I had no problem with it. My own private bathroom was spacious and did the job it had to do. The bed was a bit small, but adequate.

So far this doesn't sound like a five-star review; no big problems, but nothing special. The saving grace of the B&B, however, it its owner. Raul takes all the time you need to sit down with you, explaining what there is to see in Ushuaia and its surroundings, and in the Tierra del Fuego national park. This personal approach is what makes this B&B much more enjoyable than your average businesslike hotel. If you want to feel welcome, stay here.

We stayed for a few nights in January, and found this to be the worst experience of our month-long trip through Argentina even though it was the most expensive. There is no breakfast, just plain bread and jam and coffee. From our private room upstairs we could hear every single thing happening in the living room below, which often made it difficult to sleep. The bed was hard as a rock and the "full" bed was actually just two twin beds pushed together, and they would often move apart. The room was hardly decorated at all, with white walls and few adornments. Finally, the place was very expensive and required payment in dollars (not Argentine pesos), and the host gave us a terrible exchange rate when we had to pay in Argentine pesos.

This is a friendly welcoming and friendly b&b not too far from the centre of Ushuaia. It's a bit of a haul up the hill from the main San Martin Street but well manageable.
Owner Raul is as helpful as can be and my room (upstairs) was spacious (I think I got a double even though I was on my own), warm, very comfortable and had a good view onto the Beagle channel (albeit over the roofs of houses in front).
Some downsides are that one is essentially living in someone else's house (though the guest has his own key and can come and go as he wishes), and the breakfasts, though of good quality, are a bit sparse.
Unfortunately I had another commitment on the one night of the three that I stayed there on which Raul held his tango evening.
All in all a good stay, though perhaps slightly overpriced. I realise that Ushuaia in the "Antarctic season" is not the same as Buenos Aires in December, but my 3 nights in Tango cost me more dollars than my 4 nights in my next stop b&b in San Telmo.

Stayed 3 nights in November before our trip to Antarctica and then a further 2 nights after returning. This is a quiet B & B in a quiet neighbourhood about a 15 minute walk uphill from downtown. We had a room with an ensuite and both were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included - warm croissants, bread & jam, butter toast, tea, coffee, juice. Raul the owner was very helpful with advice and information on tours, getting around the area and on places to eat dinner. He also arranged for transport at our request. We also enjoyed a tango night provided by Raul playing the accordion in a very passionate and moving performance. Well done Raul, we loved every minute of it. A glass of champagne was also provided to guests whilst enjoying his music. Heating was also provided throughout and the home was always warm, cosy and welcoming. We were allowed to leave our excess bags in storage at the B & B whilst on our Antarctica trip. There are good views over the Beagle Channel from the dining room. We would definitely stay here again if we have occasion to be visiting Ushuaia.

Tango B&B is a very familiar way to stay in Ushuaia. We got a private room with breakfast included. The room was very clean and the heating system would work perfectly. It is a bit far from the city centre and the path to get up there is very steep. Overall it is a good option while in Tierra Del Fuego.
