We had a wonderful lunch at the Miramelindo after we had visited the Pailon de Diablo ! The food was lovely and the staff so friendly. Unfortunately we were'nt staying there as we were going on to Cuenca but it looked like a stunning place to have a break from travelling. Very close to lots of attractions too.

A colorful parrot, soft pillows, and the lush garden are a sight for the weary traveler. Fresh fruit drinks and a pretty yummy restaurant offering that has unusual painted furniture. There is a guitar by the fireplace. The manager is quite helpful and he speaks English. The hot tub was okay, not too hot but the river sweeps past as the rain sprinkled on the roof. The hotel participated in a community gathering on the side street with tables and chairs that was fun and unexpectedly music filled the streets.

Room Tip: We visited most of the rooms of which were well painted with birds and orchids in that fun Ecuador way that is so delightful like the people. Some rooms where a little musty...that may have been fixed by now.

This is one of those hotels where you arrive as a guest and leave as family! We happened to arrive on the day after Manuel and Patti's sons wedding. So there was a buzz in the air from the start.

Everywhere you look in this place are Patti's lovely paintings - on every wall in the whole hotel. It really gives it a story book feel and coupled with the lovely gardens and pool it is a magical place. Our room had an enormous round turret kind of thing above the bed, which was beautifully painted. It is such a gorgeous room and very spacious with a comfy couch.

There is an in house restaurant which serves up ridiculously delicious food, huge scrumptious breakfasts, three course lunches and heavenly dinners (try the tiramisu!). They also do a big buffet on the weekends.

With the food was all sorts of little extra treats like this spicy bean dish that comes before the starters, sooo good! We are vegetarian so we were really happy that they could whip something up for us that had variety and flavour! The chefs here are awesome.

The hotel is right by the river as is the jacuzzi! We spent one night in there, and also tried the bano de cabon which is an awesome sauna box with herbs in it. You switch between that and the pool for 45 minutes for a great detox.

The highlight of this really is the owners, who are so welcoming and interesting. They have a fantastic outlook on life and we felt really lucky to have met them.

It is a $10 taxi ride to or from Banos.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different and there are several family rooms, Room 3 is the one with the turret over the bed.

We stopped here on the way home after exploring Banos because I needed a little relaxation and indulgence. We were traveling with a group of 8 so we all decided to stop and use the facilities. The gentleman who was working there was so friendly and set us all up. To use the pool & jacuzzi and aromatherapy sauna with eucalyptus (which was my favorite) was only $5 per person! One of the girls in our group even forgot a bathing suit and he was able to let her borrow one along with towels. In addition to the above two of us also got massages, which were great and so affordable! They also have banos de cajon, which you have to try! Our treatments also included fresh fruit at the end, which we enjoyed relaxing using the wi fi in the common area. We did not stay here over night but when we return definitely will have to!

If you're going to Banos to enjoy the waterfalls, rafting or hiking, we'd recommend you stay outside of town. Miramelindo is a fantastic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Banos.
You'll find fantastic organic meals - cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. You'll love the swimming pool and sauna / hot tub as you relax at the end of the day. The rooms are clean and well appointed. Best of all, the staff is warm and wonderful - you'll feel like family by the end of your stay.

Be sure to meet the owners - Manuel and Patricia - and hear of all their adventures in Ecuador. They'll have lots of advice on where to hike, what to do in the area. If you need a local guide, they can provide all that information.

From your room you can hear the babble of the Rio Verde - take time to sit by the river and relax. Wonderful energy there.

It's literally across the street from the world-famous Pialon de Diablo - many call it the 8th wonder of the world. You'll love walking to that waterfall.

It's only a short 15 - 20 minute drive from Banos - but well worth it for the peace, quiet and tranquility.

Room Tip: There's a large cabana near the pool that's idea for couples and families. The rooms facing the river on the 2nd floor (above the hot tub) are gorgeous and connect you with nature.
