Reviewed 13 October 2013

Spent the nights of October 11 and 12, 2013 at the Casa Real and we had stayed there a couple of years ago also. This time we had a room overlooking the cascade - the room before we had overlooked the street. It was a holiday weekend so we paid holiday prices of $27 p.p. per night. The room included a small balcony with a hammock. The hostal is located in a quiet part of town and that is a good thing. The location is safe and secure and the owner/operator is nice. With the window open, we could listen to the waterfall throughout the night and we found that restful. It's easy walking distance to the center where the majority of shops and restaurants are located. The rooms are not big and the beds are small - the bed for 2 people is a double bed and not a queen or larger so if you like roominess when you sleep, well... at least you have been told in advance. The included breakfast is pretty bad. The bread was stale (fresh bread/pan is available everywhere in Ecuador for cheap) and the operator insisted that it was fresh despite the clear evidence that the enrollado could have been used in its current state as a doorknocker. The scrambled eggs were just tolerable, recommend you get the fried eggs. Go out for breakfast if you want a good meal. The hostal is somewhat old and kept up to just above average scale. Yes, there is hot water but water pressure is an issue coming out of the tap. We had the massage($45) and footrubs($15) and they were good but nothing like we used to enjoy in China. Banos may not be the place you want to visit on a holiday weekend (unless you are a teenager looking for some action) as it is packed with folks from all over the country and somewhat vexing to the spirit. During the week or not on a holiday is better. We have been coming to Banos for years and have seen it grow from a sleepy village with nothing to do after 8pm to a holiday people magnet which includes of course big price inflation. Still compared to western resorts, it's cheap. We are actively looking for next "Banos" and think that we may have found it. After checking it out, we will get back to you with our review.

A great location and in the quietest part of town. We had a wonderful balcony overlooking the waterfall. Enjoyed every moment sitting there. As a travel writer, the Internet was very slow. Breakfast and service excellent!

Great place to stay, good value rooms, comfortably furnished with big balcony and hot showers. Close to town and all amenities but very quiet. Friendly and helpful staff who can speak English and know lots about Banos and Ecadour in general. Short walk to the thermal hotsprings baths - lovely at around sunrise!

I stayed in Casa Real and found it clean, comfortable and fantastically positioned to enjoy all that this beautiful location has to offer.
The hotel is family owned by friendly, welcoming people who are expert not only in the local area but also Ecuador in general. The staff clearly enjoy their work and meeting new guests.
The hot and cold springs are a stones throw away and the views from the hotel are stunning. Next time I am in South America I will certainly be returning here.

Great value, $25 for double room, big balcony, hot showers, close to town but very quiet friendly staff and a fantastic 1 hr sports massage for $24.Humming birds visit every day, darting amongst the green foliage which screens the rooms from the road.We were staying in Banos for 8 days so we walked the town checking out the options;Casa Real was the best option.
