Predominant landscape feature and it is stunning and the history is interesting. The sheer magnitude and awesome history will impress you.

“The windows shook!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Hiked to Small restaurant, Mirador Ojos del volcan. Great views. We could hear and see the volcano erupting. The restaurant was basic but the food was good and there was a nice fireplace. The owner was also quite friendly and provided lots of information about the area. About a three hour hike up from Banos or a $20 US taxi ride.

“Covered by clouds”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

We were soooo looking forward to seeing the currently active volcano . Wanted to see hot lava and belching smoke and to hear rumblings. But --the mountain was sleeping during our stay (one week ago) and the top covered by clouds. One would not know that a volcano was even nearby.

“Spectacular”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

We were very lucky to witness the eruption of the volcano and there was no cloud cover, it was spectacular.

“Fun Nighttime Trip”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

We decided to take a chiva up at 9:00 PM one night to try to see some volcanic activity. There was a little bit of smoke, but nothing too exciting. There was a great view of the city all lit up from la cruz. They provided an alcoholic beverage except on Sundays and there's also a comedy show that a little difficult to grasp, unless you're fluent in Spanish. Overall it was a fun night for only $4. You can also get a great view of the volcano from the Casa Del Arbol, so I would suggest stopping there to swing on the end of the world, as well.
