“Effects on Baños”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

You can't guarantee that you will see an active Tungurahua when you visit Baños. What you can see are the effects living so close to a volcano has on a town. Restaurant's named Eruption and arrows painted on roads showing the escape route are just some of the unique things in Baños. In the main church there are some fabulous paintings of former eruptions and the chaos that ensues. The best views of Tungurahua are from the road leading to Riobamba in the west of town. Look out for a couple of old lava flows beside the road.

“Active during visit”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

We actually went in May 12 but had to add it . Was active and erupting while we were there we were staying at a valley village resort called potata. 70. Miles away looking right on to the erupting volcano. I have the most fantastic photos I even sent one to the national geographic as we were do close . At night we had a fantastic display but had to leave a day later as the eruptions were getting more violent but it was worth it.

“Tungurahua tour was amazing!”
Reviewed 2 May 2014 via mobile

The waterfalls was well worth the hike. We absolutely loved being surrounded by the Andes mountains. The beauty of natural elements gave us the feeling that we had gone back in time. The clouds met the mountain tops, the weather was pristine, and the scenery was unforgettable. If your a nature lover, then this is for you! Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes, and sunscreen: you'll need it. Don't be afraid to get wet near the waterfalls. If you haven't signed up its ok, the agencies are all next to each other, and they are typically ready for tours everyday. Try to travel with small bills. Unless you want to bring home old US coins.

“Tungurahua, majestic* Majestuoso*”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

Although we visited on a time where weather is super unpredictable , we were able to see it, during the day, not at night! To see its mushrooms of ashes and the clouds surrounding it like a skirt, was just breathtaking!
Make sure you time the volcano, the mist takes over the valley in a matter of seconds. If you see it clear for a few minutes, find a way to get to high grounds to see it action, worth paying the $15 cab ride to a near by hill!
