Set in a lush, beautiful mountainous farming region w gorgeous views of Tungurahua Volcano, this old school working hacienda was absolutely amazing. Fernando (the charming, charismatic, rightfully proud manager with a terrific sense of humor) and his staff bend over backwards to ensure one is comfortable and happy. Even the dogs were eager to be friendly! Fernando is a wonderful host, inviting all to learn and see more of the hacienda, explaining the different plants in his kitchen garden. The newer constructed buildings blend in well with the original hacienda and all of the unique rooms are tastefully decorated to reflect the locale/culture. Our room, #22, had fruit from the hacienda's orchard for snacking, and FABULOUS views of the volcano and valley. The food was delicious as well: perfectly cooked shrimp, and the best chocolate cake I've ever tasted. Being well travelled and not given to hyperbole, maybe the altitude got to us -but we both still talk about Hacienda Manteles and would return to Ecuador just to return here. HIGHLY recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the four rooms in the newest buildings, completed in 2012. Huge, comfortable with AM...

Hacienda Manteles is a masterpiece! The B&B is on the grounds of a beautifully landscaped farming region with terrific views of the active Tungurahua Volcano. The quaint facility is tastefully decorated with artifacts excavated from the local land. Some pieces are dated to 500 BC. Fernando and the staff welcomed us warmly and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. They extended themselves to make certain we were happy. Each room is unique and reflects the local culture. The food is very good. Fernando gave us an informative tour of the magnificent grounds. His sense of humor is fantastic. We loved the dogs, sheep and donkey. The donkey gets excited when he hears reggae music. This place is beautiful, the people are wonderful and I hope to return one day. I highly recommend Hacienda Manteles.

This is a working hacienda with beautiful gardens and farm animals one can go see and feed. Kids and adults in our tour group loved it. We could see the Tungurahua Volcano from the property and it actually spew ash while we were there. The rooms are lovely and very charming. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant stay. The room where they serve the meals had amazing views with lots of windows and natural light. The manager of the property, Senor Fernando, was super friendly and gave us a tour of the property and let us feed the animals. He also showed us the vegetable garden and explained to us about the different plants. We truly enjoyed our stay there. The rooms had no a/c but none was needed. We actually used the heater in the room at night. Highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house were a bit older but were extremely charming with wood floors. Our room was...

I agree with everyone else, getting there is a little scary, as the road is made for one vehicle, but it was worth the effort. Fernando definitely makes everyone feel at home and the dogs are so cute. The food was excellent, and the beds were so comfy and cozy.

Room Tip: The new rooms, #21 and #19 were by far the largest and had a jacuzzi tub with a view of the volcano...

The ride up was a harrrowing experience, but well worth the trip. The one lane road had us inching around several large trucks. Fernando was so welcoming as were the dogs even though Blue grabbed one of the ladies' lunch bags and gained a leftover chicken sandwich and an apple. We all got a big laugh out of that. We were in room three and were very happy with it. By the end of our 17 day Gate 1 trip, we were glad to have a room without T.V. and no view. We just wanted to sleep. Take earplugs for the main house as our Puerto Rican friend sang and sang when we wanted to sleep. We were given a great tour or the vegetable garden and were in awe of Fernando's efforts to provide wonderful fresh vegetables. The owner gave us a history of the property and we would have loved to stay longer. The filet mignon was tough that night but tasty. Their home made wine was wonderful and we could have toasted to the wonderful trip all night, which some of us did! We would definitely return and recommend this Hacienda.

Room Tip: If you are not into antiques or historical rooms, ask for the newer rooms with a view. take earplug...
