Highlight of our Gate 1, 17 trip to Peru and Ecuador. Fernando was the consummate host, making our busload of people feel like his personal friends. We were lucky to get one of the most exquisite rooms in the establishment, a suite actually. Windows on three sides of the living room created a vista of a sunset we will never forget. Tungurahua Volcano was magnificent in the distance, and we felt we had been transported back in time. The staff was impeccable, even bringing me a hot water bottle for the bed. It is quite cold in the high mountains, and we needed that extra, which made all the difference in the world. I must attest that not all tour members were excited about their rooms, as there are a large variety, and some of the ones in the old Hacienda are less well appointed. We felt lucky, indeed, to have a room in the new annexes. The food was beautifully prepared, but beware ordering the Filet Mignon. It looked wonderful. However, the meat was inedible by American standards. Simply a difference in the way the cattle are fed, I believe. Perhaps "free range" cattle? But the meat was far too tough to chew, no matter how small it was cut. The chicken was delicious, however. The drive from banos is on an extremely narrow road. And if you are driving a rented car, be aware that you should drive it during the daylight. All praise to our bus driver, who managed to navigate those hair-pin turns. We hated to leave this Shangri-La.

Room Tip: The newer suites are well worth the difference in price. You will feel like a King.

Greetings from Hacienda Manteles,

We would like to send our warmest regards, It was a real pleasure to have you with us at the Hacienda.

We are pleased to hear that you were happy with our staff and amenities. Also we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your Suite. Views throughout the Hacienda and especially to the Tungurahua Volcano are breathtaking.
Our staff is always delighted to provide the best service and to make your stay more comfortable.
We do apologize if the Filet Mignon we served was a bit rough and hard to chew. We have taken this comment in consideration and we´ll reevaluate the type of meet served for our future guests. We truly appreciate your time to let us know about this inconvenient.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to have you here in Ecuador and at the Hacienda Manteles in the not too distant future.

Thank you for your comment!

We hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Gabriela López

I spent one night here and like many other, wished I had more time to spend there. The best way I can describe the Hacienda is to say it is like the home you wish you had. Comfortable rooms that are beautifully decorated but also cozy and invite you to relax over a glass of wine or tea. Yes, the Hacienda is a little difficult to get to but that only enhances its beauty as your are met by the serene countryside. Looking forward to returning to this magical place.

We spend one night here on our Gate 1 tour of Ecuador - for me it should have been two giving us a day to explore and see the beautiful setting and enjoy the surrounding forests and trails - the manager, Fernando is great and rightfully extremely proud of his staff and the Hacienda - dinner and breakfast were outstanding - the owner came by and was extremely pleasant and interesting - they grow much of their own food so the menu is fresh and appetizing - The volcano was mostly clowed in the morning we were there but the views are still beautiful

A breathtaking drive up the narrow lush valley took us to a magical hideaway called Hacienda Manteles. We were greeted by the manager, Fernando, his attentive staff and three beautiful retrievers. After we were settled into our rooms Fernando gave us to a tour of the grounds. The lush foliage and gardens were immaculate and each exotic plant was explained in detail. The decor of the main house is rustic and tastefully decorated. Our dinner was gourmet quality with Fernando overseeing every step of the meal. Our room was comfortable and the view of the valley was amazing. We would highly recommend Hacienda Manteles as a perfect Ecuadorian getaway. Thank you Fernando!

Room Tip: Some rooms have twin beds. If you like to sleep together request the queen or have them push the twin's together.

Set in a lush, beautiful mountainous farming region w gorgeous views of Tungurahua Volcano, this old school working hacienda was absolutely amazing. Fernando (the charming, charismatic, rightfully proud manager with a terrific sense of humor) and his staff bend over backwards to ensure one is comfortable and happy. Even the dogs were eager to be friendly! Fernando is a wonderful host, inviting all to learn and see more of the hacienda, explaining the different plants in his kitchen garden. The newer constructed buildings blend in well with the original hacienda and all of the unique rooms are tastefully decorated to reflect the locale/culture. Our room, #22, had fruit from the hacienda's orchard for snacking, and FABULOUS views of the volcano and valley. The food was delicious as well: perfectly cooked shrimp, and the best chocolate cake I've ever tasted. Being well travelled and not given to hyperbole, maybe the altitude got to us -but we both still talk about Hacienda Manteles and would return to Ecuador just to return here. HIGHLY recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the four rooms in the newest buildings, completed in 2012. Huge, comfortable with AMAZING views.
