“So happy we stayed here!”

What a great little place! My family and I stayed here for two nights over our Christmas holiday. For the location, the incredibly generous (included) breakfast, and the general ambiance, the price cannot be beat. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Blue House, and really enjoyed the little courtyard.

Lovely establishment with lots of nice seating areas. Restaurant exceptionally good, plenty of options for vegetarians. Lovely staff. I would have given this establishment a full score but for a few minor episodes. 1. Up early one morning and found ourselves totally locked in, couldn't leave via the courtyard (which had locked gates) or via the main building , also locked. ?? Potential fire hazard, and easily resolved ie : residents key for courtyard.
2. blue house accommodation had to enter and leave via kitchen area . Not very professional, easy to alter via door to lounge or via courtyard gate.
3. Owners conducting business meeting loudly one evening, a bit weird for guests.
I have added these points mostly for the owners so don't be put of as it is a fantastic , friendly and very clean establishment.

I planned on staying only one or two nights and ended up staying five. I could see the beautiful waterfall from my room and was only 100 yards from the thermal hot springs which I used every morning. This is a beautiful, well run hotel with friendly staff and owner and terrific food. It is located in a quiet section of town which is a big bonus on weekends in Banos.

I had a very comfortable room here-fresh flowers were a nice touch. Shower was ok, but they clearly have a plumbing problem at this establishment. There was a horrible smell coming up through the pipes in the bathroom and I had water coming up through a pipe in the floor whenever my neighbour had a shower or flushed the toilet! Others in my travel group complained about the smell, but didn't get much help until the second night when the smell was overwhelming and they were moved to another room. Breakfast was very good-lots of choices, but quite expensive for South America. Wifi didn't work in my room-had to go to lounge area.

Room Tip: A room that opens out onto the balcony or 'the blue room'

After our first day in Banos atying at Posada de Arte, we immediately added a fourth night to our reservation. Here is why we loved this place: a few blocks out of the town center, so it's quiet. Lovely feeling of being in a rambling house with places to explore, like the rooftop where you can see the waterfall and watch hummingbirds land in the trees while you sit and read. Interesting art collection throughout, plus colorful and attractively decorated rooms and common spaces. Charming restaurant with fantastic food prepared by a friendly and talented staff. We loves their take on hue os rancheros, as well as the Swedish meatballs and quinoa paella at dinner.
The owner, Jim, also has opened the Stray Dog brew pub across from the main park downtown. His son Jason runs the bar, and even id youre not a huge beer drinker, the super-casual atmosphere belies the fact that Jason is probaby the best chef in town. We had some of the best food we've had in all our travels. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and imagination. You'll never have fish and chips like this: fresh corvino in place of the usual slabs of frozen cod, fried i. Just-made beer batter lightly seasoned with curry. And the fries are made from real local potatoes.
The house salad is equally fabulous. Jim and Jason know how to make a tourist happy!

Room Tip: We loved #5 which looks out on the back garden.

Traveled with two young children (2, 4) for two months through S America. The Posada is located on a quiet street near a large park, which was great for the boys. We had a room on the second floor with a view of the waterfall that we can actually hear at night. Everyone really enjoyed the breakfast as well; with its fresh juice, hot coffee, and several main options.

We booked a horseback riding tour a few blocks down the street, and everyone enjoyed a morning ride up the volcano. We also took advantage of massage therapy offered by Stay in Touch Massage across the street. Very reasonably priced, professional massage by the owner. All these services were within walking distance of the Posada.
