My wife and I recently had a wonderful visit to Hotel Chorlavi on our travels through Ecuadorian mountains. Chorlavi is a very intimate hacienda that is a good launching point for exploration around the Ibarra region.
The building itself is very rustic (the manager tells us that it was a Jesuit Monastery from the 1600's) with a large central building surrounding a courtyard that was a great congregation point for having a glass of wine...or in the evenings when the temperature get cold - a warm Canelazo. The walls are covered by an eclectic array of antiques that have obviously been collected over many decades and add character. There are some modern additions including a pool and jacuzzi which looked nice but we didn't get time to try.
Service was exceptional, from the moment we arrived the staff assisted with our travel plans and were constantly checking that we were satisfied. For example, one morning we were late awaking and they kept the kitchen open late because they knew we would want breakfast.
We highly recommend visiting Chorlavi.More
