This place definitely grew on me. At first glance it seems a bit worn out but after a couple of days that didn't bother me at all. The communal bathrooms are kept clean, the fale we were in was overlooking the beach. The meals were huge and delicious and included traditional Samoan food (palusami and ūlu - breadfruit, pawpaw, fa'i, coconuts). The family who runs it are friendly and helpful. Our sons made friends with some of the young boys from the Tanu Beach Fale family. You wouldn't get that in a resort! The beach is safe for young children and our sons spent hours swimming and snorkelling. My husband also saw a turtle at high tide within the reef (I wasn't so lucky). The reef looks really healthy and there were amazing fish to see. This is a very laid back place - if you need lots of attention and bells and whistles this isn't for you, but if you want somewhere to completely unwind book in for as long as you can! We'll be back....

We had a lovely stay at Tanu Beach Fales. The perfect place to unwind & relax. We were a little concerned about the weather before we arrived due to the 'open' configuration of the fales, but they are extremely sturdy, with great condition tin roofs and walls (made from cocunut tree I think) that can be folded down plus mosquito nets. Despite the tropical storms & rain we were very comfy. The food was basic but nice and you sure get alot of it! Breakfast and dinner are included and you dine with fellow travelers which makes it a nice place to make friends. The beach is one of the most beautiful on the island and the stars at night are amazing! We also found that if you walk just south of Tanu and snorkel (near Janes Fales) that there are often turtles feeding off the Seaweed at high tide. So that was pretty special. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Fales 16-20 are the best as they are beach front.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children stayed here for 2 nights. As other reviewers have said, it's definitely not for princesses but it suited us perfectly and we enjoyed our stay here. The beach is lovely though the erosion is a little worrying. There was plenty of food and the communal dining area was lovely. It was really nice waking up to the sun rising and watching it set in the evening.
The bathrooms could do with an upgrade.

Room Tip: Choose a fale away from the dining area.

Our group of 40 went for one night in Savaii and we decided on Tanu Beach we booked online while still in NZ about 2 months prior so didnt know what to expect .. i had already stayed here a few times but for many in our group this was their first time in Samoa and also to experience staying in a samoan fale .. on arrival we were happy that all our fales were ready and waiting .. for the price of 80tala you get a sturdy fale (we are big people) with a mattress and mosquito net breakfast and dinner included which was awesome .. Tanu Beach put on their Fia Fia night even though it wasnt scheduled til later that week which was great and the kids are very entertaining .. the cocktails are great when they have ingredients for them .. the bathrooms though they were basic were constantly being cleaned by the staff .. beach was great and we spent hours in the water before dinner .. good experience for all .. they might want to think about redoing their Tanu Beach sign .. thank you Tanu Beach :)

Room Tip: Stay in the fales closer to the eating area and bathrooms

Wow. From the moment our large school group arrived on Savai'i, tanu beach were there with us, and they never let us feel like we were alone. I was introduced to all the major players, and they kept with me, ensuring that needs were met, and any request were reasonably worked through so that it worked for both parties.

Tanu beach is run by a village/family, and you can feel it. I slept poorly (because of responsibilities with a school trip, not tanu's fault) and I heard the men doing security checks of the grounds throughout the night. I heard the men start up the fire at 4ish am and I heard them setting the tables for breakfast. These people work hard, and they do a great job.

They dare to care, and I would always feel like I could go back to tanu beach, and know that Frida, Grace and Vaea would treat me like I had come back to stay with them again.

Wonderful people, they will look after your needs and group in a totally appropriate and very caring way.

Thanks to all. I hope to see you again.

Room Tip: Beach front fales are great. Stay away from the kitchen area if you are a light sleeper.

Described as basic and it was with communal facilities. In fales on a most beautiful beach. Waters warm and clear. The family was just delightful and made us feel very welcome. Plenty of food especially for hungry teenagers. Dinner and breakfast was supplied. Would happily stay again and what we did appreciate was an honest description of what was available so there were no surprises. Would recommend mosquito spray and anti histamine if you need it. Mosquito nets were supplied and were effective. Only thing that could make it better were some plastic chairs to sit on at night.

Room Tip: Beach front, but all not far from the beach, ours was 3 metres.

We (65 teenagers, parents and teachers) stayed here for four nights. Basic fales and cold water showers. We had a great time, the hospitality was warm and the food..... Well, certainly the quantity was there. Probably had enough grilled chicken and breadfruit to last me a long while.
Swimming in the clear warm water and being able to watch the boys hand scrape and squeeze coconut flesh for cream made for good memories.
The fia fia night and the beach views are fantastic. It's not for travellers who want a resort experience but this place is worth the long drive in the bus!

Room Tip: Take a brush to get rid of sand from your fale. I took a silk sleeping bag liner for added comfort.
