If you have a larger 4WD, this is worth a visit. The road can be rough but take your time. Best on a fine day so you can take in the views. You will be stopped part way up by Seu..the Craterman who takes your name and date of visit as well as a small fee. We have met Seu many times now He may be a bit intimidating at first but don't worry.. he be a real friendly bloke! He works extremely hard to ensure the last part of the track up is as smooth as possible.
At the top the drop into the crater is impressive but covered in native bush and trees. Look out for some native flora - wild orchids.
Take note of the little green flags which mark the way to the top. The words on these (if they can still be read) are the titles of songs that Seu came to like when he spent some time in Auckland NZ. Get him to tell you the story! Look out for the signs along the way often noting some celebrity visitors.
