“The beach is also lovely”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

We stayed one night in this very well located hotel up northwest on Savaii. We wished we had stayed at least two. We had an old lovely bungalow close to the very nice beach. Clean, enough space and a fridge and a lovely veranda to loook out at the beach and ocean. The restaurant had several choices of food including reasonable fresh caught lobster and a lot of local twist to the preparation of foods. Even the breakfast had a very tropical and local approach.
The beach is very clean and had good snorkelling just outside from our bungalow.
No wi fi available, but really no need when you are here just to relax.

Room Tip: Bungalow #14 was lovely

the beach and good price for A/C room sold us after being super hot during the wet season in samoa.
service was great and my lobster (2) was great - however all the other food needs i bit of improvement - we understood that is far away from everywhere but still some can be done there - it was clean and the view / beach was great to hang out all afternoon.

next time we go there but cook out own meals :)

Room Tip: downstairs 2m from the beach thats good and quiet

My wife and I retreated from the rainy season to a town on the northwest coast of Savai'i named "Without Water" (Vaisala) and stayed at the lovely Vaisala Hotel. Tell them you want Room 21 if you want snorkeling at your footstep, Koko Samoa drink for breakfast, a gourgeous village to walk around in, and interesting things to see on the fabulous FALEALUPO PENINSULA. Ask to meet Kolone (KO-LONE-AY) the amazing cocoa entrepreneur who is bringing back this dowager princess of a hotel and also preserving his family large acreage of criollo and trinitario cocoa trees. It's hard to get hear but it's worth it. You can rent a car at the airport or in Apia. Then you have to take the ferry (advance reservation) from the funky port near the airport across to the Big Island. Or you can passenger across and take the buses (a very early morning start recommended). Then it's 60m around beautiful asphalt roadway all the way to the Pacific's treasure island of a cocoa plantation and resort hotel. This is great to chocolate tourists wanting a bit of demonstrations and if you lucky he'll take you way up in the fields overlooking Asau Harbour to prune trees or harvest cocoa pods. There are also also beach fales that are amazingly located at the beach at a cheaper price than the bungalow-style. I actually love to stay in Kolone's beach fales in the dry season. Bring along a bit of repellant, itch cream, or aloe vera cream for sun and for insects. The huge cold Vailima beers (amazing) are for sale at the village store for SAT6.50. Bring along your own wine. I always buy the most expensive box wine in NZ or AU before coming. You can also buy cocoa beans here. Can't say enough about this operation. Kolone's Dad appropriately named Papa first built the seawall on then the hotel back in 1984. It has survived cyclone's and really help the palangi tourist just switch into fa'a samoa (the Samoan Way).

Room Tip: The bungalows are great for couples. We liked Room 21 right on the water. Love the locals' ver...

My fiance Siosefa Tupa'i and I stayed here for 7 nights, it was the best having our own hideaway, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, perfect spot, the beach is to die for, the staff were excellent and the owner Kolone Vaai is just the perfect host, very charming and hospitable, we will definitely stay here again in the not too distant future, highly recommended.

Fa'afetai Kolone xo!!

This is one of the best kept secrets on Savai'i island.

We brought our Killara West Pymble junior rugby tour here in 2012 and we loved it so much we toured again in 2013 with Gordon Junior rugby.

The service from the staff to the owner Kolone who runs the hotel is very professional. They really look after you and make sure you are taken care of. The food is to die for, fresh produce from taro to lobsters!! they really strive on making sure guests are fed well and lots of it because thats the Samoan way.

The rooms are fine, nothing wrong them we spent most of the time on the beach the only time we came back to the rooms was to sleep! they have air conditioning and fans, beds are comfy and have a nice little deck where you can enjoy a drink or 2 with your neighbours.

The coral on the beach is simply stunning! our tour party had an absolute fabulous time playing beach volleyball (make sure you get Tommy one of the staff there, on your team can play that boy), swimming and enjoyed the great entertainment Vaisala put on for us while there.

The hotel band is fantastic and the fiafia night even better.

We will be definitely be going back for future tours and will also be suggesting Vaisala Beach resort to friends and family.

The outdoor deck they have when you have dinner, breakfast, lunch etc...is one of the best. The view when the sun sets is amazing.

Thank you Kolone and staff for making us feel welcome and as always we were sad to leave you guys. We will see you again soon for the next trip and hope to bring a new bunch of players and families to experience the beauty of Vaisala Beach resort and Samoa.

Dont hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed!!

Recently spent a day at Vaisala whilst staying at a nearby resort. It is a large, old style Samoan hotel, looking a bit worse for wear. We had lunch at the hotel, on a large, high deck/balcony overlooking the sea. The view was fabulous. Contrary to other reviews, we enjoyed a good lunch and staff were very pleasant and helpful. We did not stay there, so I can't comment on the accommodation. I have rated Vaisala as very good, as we had an enjoyable day there. However, the main reason for our visit there was to snorkel, which we found disappointing. It was good to have an outdoor shower to rinse off in after our swim. Overall, a worthwhile trip to see another small part of Savaii.

Look beyond the tiredness of this place and experience the tranquility of the location. If you want 5 star don't come here but you will miss out on something unique.
We thought the food was OK, breakfast was great with a good choice. The rooms although basic were clean ( the bed was very hard ) and most of all it was cheap .
The snorkeling here is reputed to be the best on the island and we were not disappointed with lovely coral with an abundance of fish life. The best snorkeling is at low tide as the lagoon gets quite deep at high tide but swimming is also good at low tide.
This place is on the dry side of the island so there is not much chance of rain.
We stayed for 2 nights and for me this was enough as I realize that I do like some of the home comforts.!!.
