Sadly this was our worst experience of the three hotels we stayed at. We spent three nights. While the room and view was lovely, the service left little to be desired. There was only one cup no milk provided, and the coffee and whitener sachets were all dried out.

The room was never serviced during our stay. The staff came while I was in the shower my husband asked if they could come back. They never did. We came back to the hotel around 5.30pm. We noticed there was no fresh towels and the rubbish had not been collected.

We called the front desk and the gentleman bought up the towels and explained the cleaners were running late. Come the evening there is loud banging slamming of doors and loud laughing.

Next morning we are heading out we are stopped by the lady at the desk to ask if we would like to extend our stay? We told her we had already paid for three nights. She did not respond and walked away.

Final day still no clean towels, rubbish left in room. We got back to room after midnight. While I am packing, receptionist calls and asks what time we are going to check out. She informs me she needs to log this time in.

In there hotel manual they state they clean their rooms daily and check time is 10.00am. It also stated the room service was open at particular times. Each time we called no answer.

We paid cash up front but were made to feel like we had done something wrong. When we checked out the lady didn't bother to ask us if we enjoyed our stay. She only asked if we had ordered drinks then took the key and walked away. Not a good experience.

My wife and I chanced upon the Moanalisa Hotel (it's in the completely wrong category as a Bed & Breakfast or Inn) having driven in and straight out of the dreary Airport Lodge. The Moanalisa is clean, modern, bright and with a proper hotel foyer and reception. The one thing is doesn't really have, although it tries, is street appeal. The road frontage ain't too great! That's irrelevant I suppose.

After a really, really friendly welcome by a really lovely lady, formerly a Samoan TV star, we were shown a wonderful room with ensuite facilities, TV, fridge, jug, tea, coffee, sugar, creamer, excellent air-conditioning unit, variable speed overhead fan and the comfiest beds of our whole holiday. No view though but by then it was dark.

The rear of our room opened into superbly illuminated and planted gardens in the centre of which was a really lovely and irresistible illuminated swimming pool - and a good sized one too. Had to give that a good long go. It was excellent. So was the hot shower afterwards. The nearby bar and restaurant area which are also adjacent to the garden and pool were also excellent. The service was excellent. I am using that word repeatedly but I am not exaggerating.

The young lady who owns the establishment on behalf of her MP father was truly wonderful, helpful, informative, humorous and friendly. She made the time to come and have a long friendly chat with us and make us feel most welcome, despite the fact that the Samoan Prime Minister was due to arrive for dinner within the ensuing half hour, having booked less than an hour earlier.

The restaurant team took it all in their stride and coped magnificently. One wonders if the Samoan PM will add a comment on this forum. Suffice to say that, if the Moanalisa restaurant is good enough for a PM, it's good enough for humble travellers like us.

Breakfast was very, very good (I can't say excellent all the time) and our overnight stay at Moanalisa was a wonderful way to conclude our holiday in Samoa.

The street location wasn't great and it wasn't a few steps across white sand to an azure lagoon - but it was a tremendous place otherwise. We would most certainly stop there again in preference to anywhere else in or near Apia. It is not a major distance from the airport or the Savaii ferry and it's exceptionally good value. Our overnight cost 180Tala and that was substantially better than the 280Tala being asked for at Airport Lodge. The 100Tala difference would a taxi to anywhere. Breakfast being included is always a welcome touch. It's dreadful being charged extra for tea and toast.

Having had a good look round Upolu and Savaii, I would holiday again on Savaii but spend the first and last nights, if necessary to coincide with ferry and flight timings, at Moanalisa Hotel. Yes, it's a proper hotel, not a B&B !!!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked pretty good to me. You'd get a better outlook from a room on the first flo...

The hotel lies in a town called vaitele which is located next to apia.
It is a nice small little hotel with all the necessary things you need for your stay at samoa.
We were a group of 6 people and stayed there for one week.
The rooms were clean and well equipped (TV, fridge, wardrobe, balcony, power plugs etc.). The cleaning personal asked us everyday if we want them to clean the room. They did a good job in general although they forgot to clean the floor twice.
The food in general was good. The downside was the continental breakfast. You get a few slices of toast, some fruit cuts and some muesli. After a few days we didn't receive any jam. We asked why, they said that they ran out of it.
The pool was clean when we arrived but they didn't really clean it. At the end of the week the water was oily and there was a lot of sand in the pool. We once asked the lady to clean it a little bit. After that it was ok.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at moana lisa a lot. As we only spent the nights there and were on the road it was perfect for us. There is a supermarket around the corner, the food in the hotel owned restaurant is really good and the staff is really friendly.

spent one night here- we thought fairly average and poor value. Continental breakfast was a very mean affair, no hot water in shower, only one cup for tea making, balcony never been dusted. Major renovations were taking place out by the pool-luckily the digger stopped working soon after we arrived 4.30pm.

Thank-you for your valued feedback - we deeply regret to hear that your experience was less than satisfactory. Moanalisa Hotel is committed to providing high quality service and value to our guests. With this in mind I have reviewed your comments with all members of staff and undertaken a review of our processes to ensure each room has the correct ammenities included on a daily basis and is cleaned thoroughly (including balconies) each day. Regarding the lack of hot water - each room has its own dedicated solar hot water service and a check of all rooms indicate that all appear to be working correctly - the only explanation we have been able to come up with is that the supply of hot water for the room you were assisgned may have been exhausted by a previous guest prior to your check-in and did not have an opportunity to replenish. If this concern was raised with staff at the front desk our processes dictate that they should have attempted to move you to another room - our sincere apologies if this did not occur in this instance. Sincerely - Liz (Owner/Manager)

great location between airport and the city. the only nuisance was the sound of the machinery next door at the concrete making factory. It would wake you up in the morning and then sometimes be noisy all day, which made swimming in the pool and relaxing in the rooms uncomfortable. But as long as you know this, you can work around it

Room Tip: take rooms over looking the pool

My wife and I have stayed here twice; once the week they opened and again in Aug. It's location really suits us well as we have relations nearby and it's in a neat shopping hub. It's central location makes other places easy to get to with a marketplace right across the road, regular bus services to and from Apia or the airport, or even for site seeing on their local have-to-be-seen-to-believe buses which can take you all around the Island. Taxi fares to and from Apia or the Airport are very resonable priced too.
The on-site restaurant is very good both with ambience and with very good food. The restaurant staff are well trained so the service is great.
The motel staff are very friendly and helpful too. The showers are worth mentioning - they're great, good size, plenty of hot water and good pressure. Beds are comfortable and you even make a cup of tea in your room if you want. They have a pool which kids seem to enjoy. I know it gave us great respite when it was hot and you order poolside drinks form the bar if you want.
We've had a great experience Moanalisa and as we'll be in Samoa again later this year, and if we can get a booking, we will look forward to staying there again.
Sam and Malia, NZL
