“Teppan steak, Hibachi grill and pretty good sushi in a restored ranch house near the Mexican border.”

You wouldn't think of heading to Nogales for the JAPANESE food, but Samurai is worth it. Located in a restored Ranch House (that locals remember as "Sweets and Subs") Samurai is an eastern gem in the southwest. Fresh food that is well...and sometimes entertainingly...prepared. That's the secret to most good restaurants and it's what makes this one work. Can be a little pricey, but the lunch specials are a great deal.

It's not a typical Japanese restaurant, so we were surprised how good the food was... although we went for Tepanyaki instead of the usual sushi/sashimi.

Tried to locate a nice sushi bar near the border of mexico in Nogales Arizona. We were a little tired of the common and plenty mexican based restaurants in that town. We talked to a local and found this piece of sushi heaven tucked away in an area that is pretty hard to locate. Look around or ask a local because you do not want to miss this experience. The sushi is the freshest I have had in Arizona. There is a moderately sized sushi bar, plus they have three or four japanese style shows where they cut and cook the food in front of you. We ate at the sushi bar both times there. The sushi chefs are very knowledgable in preparing the sushi. Believe it or not there is an incorrect way to do it. These guys are totally professionals. The owner was actually behind the sushi bar and he was fantastic. Very large cuts of sashimi served on delicately decorated plates. Everything we tried there was superb. The prices there are comparable to downtown Tucson's sushi bars. Well worth the drive from Tucson just to experience this restaurant. Cant say enough good things about it. I love this place and I will return time after time whenever I am in Nogales.
