For those of you who are not familiar with the town of Oatman, AZ, it is a small old western town along Old Route 66. The streets are bustling with gun fights tourists and a good sized herd of wild burros. Unlike other businesses, the Oatman Hotel Restaurant does keep the burros in the street.

This place has the best food in town. The mushroom soup was fantastic---a huge surprise. Burgers were not made from burro, so the beef ones were great and cooked to perfection. Best of all, great service.

The neatest thing was the "dollars." Yes, thousands of dollars were stapled, taped or glued to the walls, ceilings, stair rails or just strung together. Each was signed or commented by a customer from over the years. An interesting décor to say the least. So, good food and service, and unique atmosphere, makes this place a hit in my experience.

This a detour I was glad I didn't miss. Wild burros (donkey like creatures) wandering the main street, they are not afraid of crowds and love carrots. Out front of the Hotel a shoot-out old west 10 minute show happens at noon and 2:15-ish. It was a whole lot of fun. There were shops that line the main street; jewellery, t shirts, magnets, candy, leather and more. The shop owners are friendly people. Only draw back is the public washrooms are serviceable if a little dirty.

I have a hard time rating something terrible, but my hamburger was so small and thin you could see through it. The chicken fajitas were cold. The hotel was neat, but the historic parts were closed to visitors. Another tourist trap. I would say eat before you go to Oatman. We were told that this was the place to eat. If it was I can't imagine what the other place was like.

While I rated the restaurant average, due mainly to the food (what can you really say about burgers, even if they're buffalo?), the setting of the restaurant is definitely unique. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also a bit unique. The town is a throwback to the old west and is situated on historic Route 66. Donkeys roam freely on the streets of the town and seem to be one of the main attractions. You really have to go out of your way to get there (which we did), but it turned out to be an interesting adventure. I would recommend a visit to the town and I'm OK with recommending the food and the service at the Oatman Hotel.

Lovely old gold miner place. The walls plastered with dollar notes where everybody who went there left one stapled onto the walls and pillars. Groovy! The food tastes average but its big portion compensate BUT the atmosphere is fantastic and one just enjoys eating here. Considering Clark Gable honeymooned here , this place must be visited. The guitarist plays country songs and alot from Willie Nelson is also super. Please go there so that this town doesn't become a ghost town too as many have already become along the route 66.
