“Now a Holiday Inn Express, much improved”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

We stay here 1-2 times a year, and the quality has improved now that it has been picked up by Holiday Inn.
The rooms are very spacious with high ceilings. They offer a firm and a soft pillow, which is awesome.
Only a few noticeable issues remain:
One thing that still hasn't changed are the incredibly bright "spotlights" that shine against the building...even with the "blackout" curtains...the light still comes through. They really should not utilize these any longer.
The second was that we didn't get a bill placed under our door on the morning of checkout. NBD, but it adds 10+ minutes to a busy morning to stop at the front desk to check out.

This property just became a Holiday Inn Express in the last 6 to 8 weeks. I stayed here in May and I really liked it. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was better than other Holiday Inn Express stops that I remember. I don't think the eggs are "real" (cooked fresh) but they were ok and the sausage & bacon provided good protein. I absolutely love the Holiday Inn cinamon rolls but I only eat about 1 per year due to the calories & carbs. They should offer those at night with coffee....it would make a great dessert. Anyway...

The location is a very nice setting (by the mountains), good restaurants nearby, starbucks within a mile and the hotel work out room looked current with treadmills, eliptical and free weights.

It would be great if they added usb chargers to plug in your phone. Newer Hamptons offer this and I'm sold on that feature.

This was a last minute overnight booking. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and tidy and spacious. The complimentary breakfast was also tasty and substantial. No complaints at all. If the need arose I'd book again.

Room Tip: The front faces onto the Catalina's so ask if they are available.

This hotel was wonderful as well as the surrounding area. It is all like a brand new development. The hotel was newly renovated and was beautiful inside. The room was very nice and the bed comfy. The hotel is set back from the street and was so very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious and had a good variety of foods. Each morning they changed up the eggs so you didnt get bored. Always offering the biscuits and gravy which were yummy and a pancake machine. The Biosphere in Oracle was just up the road and the tour was very interesting. The Pima Air and Space Museum in Tuscon was not a far drive to get to it and staying in Oro Valley was so relaxing rather than the hubbub of the City. The hotel is located across from the Coronado Mountain Range so you have a beautiful view as you drive around. Close to the hotel was a brand new shopping center filled with stores and restaurants. If you like Mexican Food there is a wonderful place to eat at called Macayo's at 7360 N Oracle Road. We had the Chicken Poblano which was so good we ended up eating at the Macayo's in Casa Grande at the tail end of our trip. Other than site seeing there was no reason to have to leave Oro Valley. Sure wish we could have found this gem in the other places we visted on our trip.

Room Tip: Either side is great. We had the mountain side which faces the mountain range and the street but the...

Our GPS took us to the right address but the sign said "Holiday Inn Express" instead of "Oro Valley Inn and Suites". Since we had made a reservation at least a month before our March 14th one-night stay it would have been nice to be informed of the transition. Having voiced my one and only complaint I would definitely recommend staying here. The place was super clean (I thought it was newly opened), rooms large with very comfy beds and the breakfast was more than adequate.

I recently spent a month at the Oro Valley Hotel & Suites while on business, at the time when it was transitioning into becoming the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley (or Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley - Tucson North) . There may be some confusion of this hotel with other hotels with similar names which are also on Oracle Road, so let me be clear that the hotel I am referring to is located at 11075 North Oracle Road in Oro Valley, AZ. (The new official Holiday Inn website compounds the confusion by giving the address as 11705 North Oracle Road, but hopefully this will be quickly corrected!).

The first thing I want to say is that there are some recent reviews with negative comments about the hotel being a "shambles" because of the transitioning to a Holiday Inn, or about some other inconveniences connected with the process. In my opinion, those reviewers might have tried to be more understanding of the circumstances. For myself, I can say that my month-long stay at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Oro Valley-Tucson North was very pleasant, and I have nothing but praise for the accommodations, the services, the amenities, and the employees; and the rate charged was very fair when compared with other hotels in the area.

The rooms were very clean, nicely furnished, spacious, and well-laid out. Soundproofing between rooms was very good, as was the lack of plumbing noises from adjacent rooms. A new wi-fi system was being set up when I first arrived, and there were a few minor glitches for a couple of days, but after that it worked better than the majority of hotels where I have stayed. The complimentary breakfast had a nice variety of items to meet the tastes of just about everyone -- yogurt, hardboiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, cinnabons, waffles, omelets, sausages, bacon, fruit, juices, coffee, and probably some other things I have forgotten.

All of the employees -- and I mean everyone from those at the desk, to those who conducted the daily housekeeping, to those who kept everything supplied at breakfast -- were very pleasant, polite, personable, and helpful. I would give the names of several of them, but to avoid leaving someone out inadvertantly I will just say thank you to all of them for making my stay so pleasant.

I would also like to commend Jim, the General Manager, for the fastidious work that he did in overseeing the changing over of the hotel to Holiday Inn specifications. He has a very good reason to be proud of his hotel, his employees, and all of the amenities which are available. There are many other things I have not mentioned which would appeal to people with different interests from mine (swimming pool, fitness room, etc), and I certainly recommend this property as a comfortable, pleasant, and hospitable place for anyone who may be staying in the Oro Valley area.

We must have stayed just before the construction/renovation; breakfast was served with a smile by Rita, the heating and cooling was noisy, but not a deal killer. It was priced well for this trip and even though it was far from the downtown area, the savings made the drive worth it.
